Everytime a question is asked about teens or anything--someone can relate and say they were a teen mother. It just seems fishy to me. Do you really think there are that many teen mothers out there?

I'm not talking about anyone specifically. It's a general question.

Alyssa--I am also a "teen mother" I just don't understand how everyone on this thing seems to be the same and thinks they can slam it around like they are special. I just don't believe half the people on here are what they say they are--that's all. I know first hand that some teen mothers are just as capable of raising a child as a grown person.

I, for one, was never a teen mother. In fact, I am having my first at age 28. However, I do understand what you mean. Seems like everyone can relate & sometimes, just by certain answers, you can tell that they are just not telling the truth. Oh well, had to vent...sorry!

Well, I've never made that claim. I'm very proud that I didn't have a child until I was in a stable committed relationship and mature enough to be a mother. You are right about there being a lot of teen moms on Yahoo Answers. I'd like to say I don't believe that there are that many teen moms out there, but sometimes I think teen pregnancy is an epidemic, in some parts of the country more than others. I lived in Kentucky for 4 years and there were so many teen mothers there, compared to Nebraska where I grew up. I don't want to get all preachy about why there are teen moms, but I do believe there are a lot.

No , But when you ask a question about being a teen mother teen mothers are going to answer . If you ask a question about 20+,30+,40+ mothers they are going to answer . Not everyone was a teen mother it's just the way a question is asked . And yes I do believe their are alot of teen mothers . There has been alot of talk about teen mothers . So maybe they are just speaking up because alot of people want to make us look bad . Yes us . I was a teen mother . I'm now 26 with two beautiful daughters and happily married .

I think alot of people just answer a question for points and will say anything... yes people lie. I won't even answer a question if I have no idea about it. Whats the point? I would think that the questions that I have answered has in some small way helped that person.
But in saying that there are a high number of Teens out there getting pregnant but I dont believe they are all on Yahoo Answers.

I had my first right after my 18th b-day. So I can relate to not being able to follow some dreams, and not having "party time". And I do answer some questions from teen moms. But does a person REALLY have to go through something to know the difficulties and struggles involved with it? I have seen several of my "friends" and family members deal with babies at 16 or younger, I think I have a fairly good grasp of what they went through!

I was never a teen mother, nor I've said that I ever was.
There are many teen mothers and stay-at-home mothers who post of this forum because 1- they may feel obliged to share their experience and help, 2-they may have more time.
If I was not jet-lagged, I would not have the time to post, so I can see why either night owls like myself and people with lots of questions, lots of answers, or lots of free time would post. That's why they might be so prevalent on sites like this one.

why does it matter if there are teen moms in this world? you make it sound like it is a horrible thing. you almost act affended towards the fact that there are more teen mothers then there are mothers over the age of 20. im sorry but im just not getting what is the big deal. im a teen mother, that doesnt mean im going to do a poor job at raising my little boy. im just not getting the point of this.

Unfortunately Lindsay it is true there are many teen moms around.
I was unable to have children and I am married 13 years and known my husband 17 years.
I think there are more important things for young girls to do then have sex, sex complicates things and they have babies they are not even ready for.
There are single moms in my church and some that are affiliated with our church. I used to be bitter and have a chip on my shoulder because these teens could get pregnant and I could not have children.
We need to be teaching our daughters, nieces, spiritual children, god daughters that there is more to life than the thrill of the moment. To use their time wisely and make the most out of the time given to them.
This situation which is more like an epidemic needs a lot of prayer.

The US has the highest teenage pregnancy rate of any industrialized nation at about 50 per 1000 teens, almost twice as much as the next (which I believe is the UK). Not surprising, we also have one of the highest abortion rates because eight of ten of those pregnancies are unplanned.
Although the numbers are coming down, is it still a major concern because of the health, social, and economic problems bestowed not only on the mother and child, but society as a whole.
It's not fishy, it is a fact of life in the US. Maybe we should be doing a better job of explaining the facts of life to our children.
There's much more on the subject. Just search on "teenage pregnancy" and you will get many articles, most of them unbiased (Both liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans recognize the problem. They may want to tackle it differently, but they can agree on the impacts to our society.)

I was pregnant at 15 and am now 28 with three beautiful children. I can tell you that where I was from ( the eastern shore of Maryland) 1 in 3 girls had a child before they were 18. I don't know how much that helps you.
