N.H.S charges are in 3 bands now Band 1 is £15.50 which covers a check up, any xrays and a scale and polish. Band 2 is £42.40 which covers all fillings regardless if you have 1 or 10, root fillings and extractions. Band 3 is £189 which covers dentures, crowns and veneers ( anything which needs to be sent to a lab). I work in a dental practice so i know these are correct. Hope it helps!

hi there,it should be42.40 thats the new charge for nhs patients!this all changed in april with the new contracts.
but if u were to have 10 fillings and a scape it would still cost the same cause it falls under the same band which is band 2.

Perfect! there is now a 3 tier system set in place! 1st level is about £17.50 for a check up and clean next is £42.00 for clean, check up, xrays, filling or extraction and £170 (i think) if your getting root canal done or some needing more work than normal.

£42.40 is the standard price for band 2 NHS treatment (including fillings/cleans/x-rays/etc). If you have a filling your dentist can only charge you this amount as it was regulated that way per 1/4/06 (unfortunately).

I'm a dentist.

42 pounds is what, 80, 90 dollars? For a filling and a scaling? That is dirt cheap.

I paid £32 the other day for a similar amount of work.

Its ok really, go private and see the difference in your bank balance.

We are very lucky to have the NHS in this country.

Sounds about average. It shouldn't cost that because we already pay for health care in a different way and this should include dental treatment but what can you do?

Yeh I'm afraid that is the right price £42.40. Would have been the same price if you had 5 fillings, sucks if you don't need much doing.
