Does anyone know of someone by the name of Lawrence Hemick? I'm sure I'm spelling the name wrong. However, at the time I fought him in 1977 or 1978 in Macomb Il, he was the 2 time national champion in the 110'ish pound weight division. Just wondering whatever happened to him.

Ok...silver gloves. It was a long time ago. At one time my family was kind of into it and he was the 2-time national champion and I don't believe he was from macomb...he may have been visiting.

Yes, I have! His name is actually spelled Hemyick.
He had a brain tumor in 1992 and died shortly after it was removed. His first GG fight was against Hiram Santiago (#1 GG contender) and he knocked him out in the 2nd round. He had 3 kids all boys and they live in witchita Kansas. The oldest one is Larry jr and he was working as a professional trainer for Jaime lee curtis. I know one of his kids died because of cancer. What is your name? I probably know about you also.

I think you're confusing the Silver Glove Tournament with the Golden Glove Tournament. You must at the least be16 years old to compete in the Golden Gloves, in the Silver Gloves it's 8 years old to 15 years old. There's another error in your judgment as far as location, in 1977/78 the Golden Gloves were held in two sites in Illinois, there was the Chicago Tribune Golden Gloves held every year in Chicago, Illinois and there was the Illinois State Golden Gloves held in the Capital of Illinois Springfield.
There was at one time a Golden Gloves Tournament in Sterling, Illinois but that stopped in the mid seventies due to the low participation. In 1985 the Springfield Golden Gloves stopped for the same reason the following year the Chicago Tribunes Golden Gloves name was changed when the Chicago Tribune News Paper withdrew it's sponsorship and since then it is just known as the Chicago Golden Gloves.
The answer to your question is "No, I never heard of him." I contacted Louis Rios from LaSalle Illinois former President of USA Boxing, former President of Illinois ABF, former President of Illinois AAU and he never heard of the boxer that you are asking the question about.
