Number 2, you are the first contact, therefore the first impression of the company you are representing. Smile, be firendly, bend over backwards to make them feel comfortable. Offer a cup of tea if they are to be kept waiting or a magazine. Let them know how long they are expected to be waiting.
3. Keep them informed of how much longer they will be waiting. They will really appreciate this level of care and consideration. Maybe engage them in conversation if you are not too busy on the phone.

And....if you are going to work as a receptionist, I think you should have no problems in writing what those roles are. If you don't have a clue then you should seriously consider a new career, one that you do know about.

The responsibilities would be answering phones, taking appointments, greeting customers and preparing them for hair cut eg. taking their coat and helping them put on an apron. Diary management, keeping it up to date and contacting customers to rearrange appointment if necesary. Assisting when asked to do so. I think this covers the main responsibilities.
