My hair used to be jet black. Now it's dark brown...Is there a way I can make the color darker without getting it dyed or anything?? (This probably sounds stupid, I know!!)

:(

One possible cause is sun damage- I'd suggest staying out of the sun. Unfortunately, this won't reverse the color change that has already occurred.

Another possible cause of this is that your hair is naturally changing color. When I was small (3yrs old), I had very blond hair. Somewhere between then and about 5, my hair became a medium brown... it's never gone back...

How old are you? Often, hair changes when a person goes through changes like puberty, menopause, pregnancy, etc.

You can use henna, it's from a plant, and it naturally coats color onto the hair shaft.

Some will tell you it's permanent, but I'll tell you how to remove it easily if it's not the color you like:

Dab the hair with rubbing alcohol (70% is the household type), then apply mineral oil, just the kind used as a laxative. Sit under a hair dryer for 10 minutes.

Before shampooing, put the shampoo directly onto the hair, without water, and rub it around. Then add water and shampoo.

I'll list below some sites for henna.

Keeping it out of the sun might help (not sure if that's the problem though) You might want to try a glaze on your hair. It's like coloring it, but only lasts through about one shampoo, so it doesn't damage your hair like coloring does. I'm not sure if there is black glaze though either.

It's getting lighter because of damage mostly from the sun. It's unhealthy from the heat, and the sun lightens the color. So protect your hair more. As for the already damaged hair, leave it or trim the ends.

Try one of the new shampoos that add color deposits in your hair as you wash. It is not permanent- but it adds small color deposits in your hair that won't damage. A few brands to try - Biolage and John Frieda.

No not really, but if you use semi-permanent color you will incur almost no damage. Don't use permanent this will only lighten your hair. Make sure it is semi permanent. I'm a hair dresser DO NOT USE HENNA DYE.

No, you have to dye it. It gets lighter in the sun.
