Dogs are in heat for about three weeks, twice a year. Spaying is beneficial on so many levels.

Regardless of the breed, all dogs have a heat cycle of 21 days (give or take a day)
IF you do not want puppies, keep her away from any males for a full 21 to 25 days.
There is ***NOTHING*** that a willing set of dogs cant climb, jump, dig, chew, crawl, squeeze, push, or pull out in their pursuit of that midnight tryst.
And trust me IT WILL NOT be that fine full blooded rat terrier down the road.....OH NO, it will be that walking rug that is a mixture of 27 breeds that you girl will have the hots for,,,,,,,,,,,

Generally 3 weeks in total and they need to be kept away from all males the whole time, even though they won't stand for a male during the whole cycle.
