early-death, malformed (by causing hip displasia, etc.), cranky, swollen-brained clones?

I think this was not the best written question. My mom asked it on my account so I asked her to get her own. but I did have a similar question only mine would go something like this. "why do people inbreed dogs?" chetco answered this well, thank you.

If you are right you don't have to swear or yell. If you swear or yell it just shows that all you have is emotional outbursts to stand on.
chetco didn't agree and gave facts you didn't agree and threw a temper tantrum "gitemgang" what are you a spoiled child?

I consider in-breeding to be mating first degree relatives, i.e.: father x daughter, brother x sister.

There are two primary reasons for in-breeding, one is to "set" desirable traits. In this case, you are trying to "concentrate" or "homogenize" the genes for those traits by producing offspring from parents who already carry similar genetic packages. The hope here is not only that the offspring produced will be wonderful examples of the breed, but also that they will be prepotent for these desirable traits and have a strong tendency to pass them on to the next generation.

The second reason for in-breeding a litter is for a breeder to "flush out" undesirable genetic traits. By working with the limited genetic input of 1st degree relatives, you are more likely to double up on any lurking hereditary health problems, thereby producing an affected puppy. Should this occur, it provides the breeder (and hopefully the breed community) with very valuable information on what undesirable genetic baggage the dogs carry.

The value of information... when shared... can't be overstated. It is the only tool that enables breeders to effectively work towards sounder, healthier, longer lived, purebred dog.

Is in-breeding right or wrong?

In my opinion, it has the potential to be both. It can be a valuable tool when used on a VERY, VERY, limited basis... by a breeder with VERY, VERY extensive knowledge of the family of dogs they're working with. It's not something to be done routinely nor in a vacuum.

Yeah, you really should have a clue as to what you are talking about!!!!!!! What is "early death"? I have a friend that has a Heinz 57 and it died suddenly at 4. Is that "early death"????
Mixed breed dogs are just as likely to have hip dysplasia as purebreeds. Most mixed breed owners do not automatically check for that condition as many of us "show people" do. If there was screening for it for ALL dogs, you would find that mixed breeds suffer it the same.
I guess maybe you have had a bad experience with a purebred dog or something. Who know....just be more informed before you post something like this....using the wrong terminology makes you look ignorant.

True "show people" as you call them are dedicated to properly selecting & breeding their animals so as to prevent malformations & genetic anomolies.
They most certain DO NOT inbreed their animals. They would not accept a dog to a dog show that was inbred or has any of the conditions that you mentioned.
I think you are getting "show people" confused with backyard breeders or puppy mills.

they call it line-breeding, they dont breed siblings, the closest they tend to breed is grandfather X grandaughter. they think it breeds quality which it does sometimes but there are many risks i.e.hip displasia etc. you will find that good accredited breeders will have there stud dogs and brood bitches hips scored and eyes tested to protect against glucoma and hip displacia.x
