The past week (not everytime) throughout the day, my son (26 months) will tell me "potty" so i will put him on and he always goes poop AND pee!!! I was going to wait until after the baby comes (c section tuesday) because I didnt want to get him on a schedule that wouldnt stay but I cant deny him the potty. Should I just go with the flow and take him whrn HE asks or should I put him up there even if he doesnt ask at regular times? I have heard that having a baby makes them go back but he is very aware of the baby and he likes doing everything like a big boy. He is basically potty training himself so it is HIS choice. He is VERY independent. Need some advice!

Alot of toddlers actually potty train themselves, yours isn't the first so go with the flow, if he's ready to be a big boy now let him and be proud. If your worried he will regress just make sure and give him lots of attention too when the baby comes.

By all means, take this acheivement on his part and RUN with it! there may be some inital issues once the baby comes, but if he's interested in the potty then embrace this opportunity to get one child trained! I was very lax with my oldest, letting him set the pace. he's now 4 and struggling to master the potty, meanwhile I've had 2 more little ones and spent a good portion of my day changing not 1 but 3 little butts.. just remember, LOTS of rewards and praise for a job well done, and don't linger on the accidents. They will happen. Congratulations on the new baby and having a little big boy who is so self aware! You should be proud!

You don't need to schedule potty training. If he is telling you he has to go just go with it. If you push it he may revert after the baby. Just make sure you praise him everytime he goes...lots of hugs and kisses...and when you change his diaper don't give him much attention. He will realize that you are giving him attention when he goes on the potty and won't revert to diapers because he is not getting much attention when you change him.

He sounds like a really smart kid! Trust me it's easier to have only one in diapers! Once he gets potty trained start teaching him how to go pee all by himself, let him know that when you are at home he doesn't have to ask, he can just go.

Good Luck!

My oldest did pretty much the same thing. Only, he would take his diaper off, pee into it, then throw it away, and come to me to put a new one on. I simply told him if e was going to take his daiper off to pee, he should go to the potty and pee. AN HOUR later, I heard the diaper come off, and him peeing so I looked, and he haad climbed up on the potty by himself, and was peeing.
I asked him if he wanted to wear big boy undies, he said yes, and he was potty trained right then and there. Dont hold him back, if he wants to, let him, you will be glad he is potty trained when baby comes. I was also pg when oldest potty trained himself, and he did just fine after I had the baby. I was soooo glad that I had one less thing to worry about after baby came.

I would go with the flow and take him whenever he ask to go, but I can assure you 90% that once the baby gets home, he will find ways to get your attention and one will be peeing in his under-ware. Don't make it a big fuzz, he will need some time to adapt to the new family (about 2 - 3 months). It happened to my eldest daughter, by 28 mo. she was totally potty trained and when her sister arrived (she was 33 mo) we went back to diapers for a 2 month period. Then one day she decided to go again. The most important thing is not to pressure them!

I just potty-trained my son (28 months) and I say go for it. Especially if he wants to. My son never asked I just decided to do it because I am having a baby in Dec and did not want to change 2 butts. Congrats on both.

no, he will let you know when it is time though.... try to be patient, and reward him everytime he tries, even if he just sits quietly on the "potty". if he asks to go alwyas let him, but make sure you let him know that is it not playtime!
Good Luck!
