I am pregnant with my third child, and I am planning on having my tubes tied after we have this baby. My question is, Has anyone who had their tubes tied had problems afterwards? I have heard that you get really bad cramps, and really heavy periods. Just wanted some advice. I'm 26, and I am sure this is what I want to do, but I was just wondering if anyone has had any major, or minor problems. Thanks.

for the idiots out there, I wanted to get personal experiences from people who have had this done or from their spouses, as far as asking my doctor, he is a man, and has never had it done! Thanks to every one else.

I am 27, I had my tubes tied after my 3rd child as well....It was painful afterwards because they "blow" your stomach up so they can maneuver in there, and then they try to deflate it as much as possible...Some of the gas gets trapped and can really cause pain in your shoulders and for some in their hips...my hips took the brunt of the pain. They give you pain meds which help to some degree...After about the 2nd day you'll start feeling better. My periods haven't been quite right since though..I finally got pretty much on schedule but I always have a "skip" day now...and I also bleed way more than I used to before having my tubal done. Cramps aren't neccessarily any worse...I have my better months and then some that are not so good. It was well worth it though, not having to worry about contraception with my hubby anymore...it's a great feeling of freedom. Best of luck to you!!

I am 26 also and I have two children and I had my tubes tied after my daughter was born in 2002. I did not have any problems after I had my tubes tied. I followed the doctors instructions and everything was fine. I had the same day surgery and my sister went with me and drove me home and after that I was fine. I did have to rest for the next few days, but everything went fine. No problems at all. I know that everybody is different, but my experience went fine. I had this done four years ago, a few months after my daughter was born. They say that is is easier if you get your tubes tied right after your baby is born so you can recover at the same time after having your baby. When she was born I did not know at the time if I really wanted to get my tubes tied. I waited and did alot of thinking and when she was about 2 months I finally decided to get my tubes tied. Alot of people told me that I made a mistake after I did it because I was so young, but I knew what was best for me.
Good Luck and Congratulations on your new baby!!!

I had my tubes tied after the birth of our twin boys 3 years ago. It was alot different than it was when I had our daughter 4 years ago. First of all, I had a period for a month straight and it was very heavy. I had cramps really bad too. What didn't help was that I had a c-section because I was high risk so I had a catheter bag plus another bag in my side to catch the excess blood that came from having my tubes tied. I didn't have that second bag with our daughter. It took me longer to heal too because of the c-section but other than that nothing to keep me in the hospital. I was only there 5 days! Good luck to you and congratulations!

I had my tubes tied after the birth of my 4th child & I have to say it was bad... the tubaligation wasent bad & the recovery wasent awful, but now I have high blood pressure ( not over weight eat right & exercise ) I have bad cramps & I pass huge clots I also now have fibroids on my uterus & my OB/GYN wants to do a hysterectomy on me which I am not ready for. I know all these things could be caused from something else but I was in perfect health until I had the tubal done . Its nice to know my husband & I dont have to worry with condoms or did I take my pill sort of things but the outcome was not worth all my problems I have now..... use your own judgement but I never tell anyone that ask me , that they should do it .

I had mine done 2 months after my 2nd daughter was born. If you're doing it when you deliver it should be fine. The only problem I had, was my chest & shoulders hurt afterward from the gas they use to "blow up" your abdomen. My periods never changed and like my husband says "I took out the factory but left the playground!

I had mine done with no problems. I love it, and my periods are easier, BUT I have also started on thyroid meds. I suspected it was low before the tubal, I had plenty of symptoms. It tested low for the first time a month after the tubal, and I have since heard from a few women that it can "mess up" your thyroid. One doctor scoffed at it, and one told me that it was rumored, but they had no proof. SO, I would suggest you watch your thyroid, but for me, it was still worth it.
BTW, my ex-husband did a vasectomy. He also had no problems, and is VERY happy with it. But we divorced, and my birth control failed with my husband. I am very happy to have the baby, but that is also something to think about!!

I had mine tied 10 months ago during a c-section. Ive had sharp pains in my right side (ovary area) but honestly I cant say it was definitely because of the tubal ligation. In my mind Ive convinced myself that its from scar tissue due to it, but Im probably wrong! My OB/Gyn said she doesnt know what it is either but that I seem healthy otherwise.

Had them tied, and everything was great. It also seemed to help with the sex, because there wasn't the worry about getting pregnant if the birth control didn't work.
