Re: australopithecus vs humans - I'm hunting for a connection between the two parts of your question and can't see it. So I'll give you a factual answer.

Australopithecus fundamentally, of course, differed from man in terms of genetic structure. Behaviourally the brain was much, much smaller and so abstract thought and planning would likely be much impaired. Although bipedal, australopitheci would be much more agile in trees due to different shoulder blade structures allowing freer overarm movement. There are many other examples of different features between the two species.

I gather from some of the other answers that you are talking about a race of sub-humans that vanished in the flood of Noah's time. There were several races of theswe beings and they were all created by God just like everything else in the universe. During the flood many species became extinct----what you might call natural selection I call God's design. For some reason these species of sub-humans were not allowed to survive---if you make it to heaven, then you will have to ask God why. You will also have to ask God why he did not let the dinosaurs live. I would like to see a real live dinosaur, partricularly a T-rex. Since the entire timeline of the universe is intact from beginning to end, maybe when i get to heaven God will let me look in on pre-history and actually view these extinct species in their real time. I can't wait to get to heaven. Lord, take me now!!!!!!!

Since humans don't even HAVE tails, how could God be in de tails??

Okay, so yeah, I think God might have had and hand in it somewhere. But I KNOW it didn't all happen at once.

Isn't "Nessie" so much more mysterious sounding and interesting that Austrolopithecus, anyway??

Oops... that's not the nessie thing, is it?

Well.... Then I'm with the millions of years of evolution crowd.

Jim is in the house!!! YAY!!!!

well, without going to an actual site and copy/pasting the exact physical differences, I'd say they are very likely the 'missing link' component that leads to what we are today. You can see the similarties.
