religion is about power and control over the masses. It takes away free thinking and responsibility for ones own actions. also I see it as a very immature need to rely on something that is a "parental" figure. its about time the human race grew up and started looking after each other.

I mentioned in another question post somewhere that we have a lot to thank religion for. Without religion, particularly Judaism, Muslim and Christianity, the ancient pursuit of scientific and technological advancement would have been much slower. More accurate means of time measurements were required to ensure for instance that prayers were performed at the correct times/dates. Astronomy was important to predict the various seasons, the timings for Ramadan, Easter, Midwinter etc etc The great voyages of discovery to the Americas by the Spanish and Portuguese were dependent on accurate time keeping for navigation, a greater knowledge of the planets and stars movements all of which was driven by religion. Religion has been the main driver of many wars and thus technological advancement. Many characters in history, and the present, have used religion as a means of controlling the masses. Religion isn't evil, man's interpretation of the various doctrines, and how he chooses to exercise this belief and knowledge over others is evil.

That's not true every war is about economics and power. Religion might be the tool used to get the war drums beating but every war is about greed and power. SO I deny that. Blaming religion masks the truth and if there was no Religion. people would still kill each other.
Its not religion. at least religion tries to get people to be less animal like and more compassionate. How would you teach children Compassion? What would you do to get people not to live from there animal instincts? What would you call it? Law ? Then that would be the Religion. Unless you implanted or brainwashed every one to think like you. But then YOU would be God. So whats your answer? Without creating another religion.

Yeah, right on. I mean there was the Revolutionary War, and that was about...um...politics. And then the War of 1812, which was another spat with the UK over...um...politics. Then the civil war...over states' rights and slavery. Then WWI, which was about a land grab in Europe...and politics. Then WWII, which was basically a continuation of WWI. Then Korea, which was about containing communism, then Vietnam, which was more of the same, then the Gulf Wars...about oil and terrorism. OK, maybe the last ones have something to do with religion - but all the others???

I think somebody may need a history lesson......

You clearly know nothing about the process of brainwashing if you believe that someone making a choice based on things they have read and heard is a form of brainwashing.

And, er, every war does not have something to do with religion. Maybe every war you are aware of that has occurred during your lifetime--but then you wouldn't know anything about the civil war in Angola, for example. Many wars have something to do with politics.

So when you say, "No one can deny that!", are you attempting to "brainwash" people to believe your opinion that has at its base an astonishing dearth of facts?

Can't say I'm a big fan of religion myself but I think it would be wrong to say that religion itself is evil - it's a very small number of fanatics/fundamentals who spoilt it for the rest. Most religions and most religious people are peace loving and law abiding.
As for ALL wars having a religious basis - I think you are wrong there. Money and territory have a lot to answer for too. What did the Falklands War have to do with religion? It was a fight over a few small Islands!

I'm a Christian and not brainwashed.

Religion is not evil. Christians, Jews, and Muslims the world over want to live in peace and make a better world for our children and grandchildren.

It takes a finger to pull a trigger, not religion. Religion is not evil, but some people are!

Peace

Isn't it amazing how quickly people forget about the good things that religion does as well. Mother Teresa.Dalai Lama. Church run orphanages. African feeding projects. Amy Carmichael. Jim Elliot. Soup Kitchens. Inner City ministries. Salvation Army. These are all things religion has produced. You need to open your eyes and see that just as everything is not always good, not everything is always evil either.

War is always initiated by men. Is God responsible if people decide to do these atrocities for religion while he told them not to kill (it is one of the first commandment.).
Concerning brainwashing, if religion comes from man it is evil. But God is not a religion. He is only the create of the world, he is love. It's just a shame that people misuse his name.

Many wars have something to do with someone or some group wanting power, land etc. that is not theirs. The Revolutionary War, the Civil War, Spanish-American--the current War against Terrorism.

Just because a person says they are doing God's will does not mean they are telling the TRUTH.

Some people use religion as an excuse to do terrible things. That isn't the fault of the religion itself (the same folks would continue to do terrible things, even if they didn't have a religion). Exception to this is, of course, Islam... a religion that really does tell people to hurt others in the name of their religion.
