I think that she would be sad for a while and then she gets over it, though I have never experienced this for myself.

OMG, I was thinking the same thing today. 2 of my cats had kittens. 1 cats kittens are not friendly and are wild. They use to get up in our car moter and 1 kitten got under the hood and took off while the car was moving on the first day of school. I never found the kitten and I swear the momma kitten was sad and was looking for her baby. I was telling my husband last night I think it's sad to separate the kittens from their mommy's and siblings

Once the kittens reach a certain age and the mother cat is no longer nursing, the bond between the mother and her kittens changes. She will miss them but she moves on pretty quickly.

I don't know about these answers as our cat had kittens and 6 months later she heard kittens on the TV and went nuts. Running all over the house looking for hers. She even went to the room where she had them and sat there all night looking at the boxes and whining. I think cats are very smart and although independent they do have feelings and maternal instinct lasts.

I'm not sure if I would call it sad, but the are bewildered and confused. They can smell their kittens but don't see them. Give your kitty extra attention and love and for heavens sake please get her spayed! There are enough homeless cats and dogs in the world. It is the most loving thing to do.

Yes they get sad. If they are taken away too young, they get very upset, but if it is in the 7-8 week stage, they get over it.

Probably. I have a Lhasa Opso and sold her puppies at three months old. She wouldn't have anything to do with me for about a week. She was a sad little girl.
She just had another puppy and my wife tells me we're going to keep it.

No...not really. Cats don't really care either way...they're independent creatures, and as long as the kittens are done nursing, they don't have a problem with them leaving.
Most cats don't live in groups anyway...with the exception of lions.
