...where do our thoughts and memories go when we die?

If our thoughts are mere chemical reactions of energy and such in our brains, then that energy stays in existence in some manner, and theoretically could be recrated...so, is it possible our thoughts and memories remain in the atmosphere forever? Would this be a crossover of science and religion?

Some good answers...but one thing no one has hit upon yet...

If energy can't be destroyed, and our thoughts are only a make up of energy that merely changes when we die, wouldn't it theoretically be possible to recreate the form that energy was in when it was a thought?

The laws of Physics are only what we know to this day about Physics--there is more out there to discover. Seek and you shall find.

No. Energy changes forms all the time. Its not big deal. The energy in our minds is used up by the micro organisms that eat it when it rots.

If your theory was true, the thoughts of every animal could be recovered from the atmosphere too.

You forget one important part of that law of physics. Energy can not be created or destroyed but it can, and does, change form. So your notion that a thought, say I want a sandwich, remains forever in the atmosphere unchanged is absurd.

I'm sure it merely changes. Instead of a memory, it just becomes a simple form of energy. But, I do believe, there may be something to this, that would be a partial explanation for people seeing ghosts.

Can you define just what the mass and energy of a thought or a memory IS? Can you determine at the same time its velocity? A thought is always in motion, and once it is pinned down, it isn't what you "thought" it was. Perhaps this is a corollary of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle applied to the non-quantified phenomenon of mental processes...

you know how nice it feels in the morning when you don't want to get out of bed because it feels so good to keep your head on that warm, soft pillow?

that's where your thoughts and memories go, dude. HEAT. 20% of all the energy in your body is consumed by your brain and is given off as HEAT, which is the ultimate form of disordered chaotic energy.

as far as technology can tell, ideas are the end results of tangible and chemical applications on your mind. So the actual consequences of your ideas and ideas may decay into warmth power and then dissapate, or convert into different chemical substances that ruin down by the years and launch their power by warmth as well. once you're speaking about incorporeal parts of your being, technology don't have any info that they exist, if you should't keep in mind that they are subject to actual obstacles. in the experience that they exist they could concieveably bypass on with out replacing, merely are transfered to a unique nonphyisical entity, like your soul.

Maybe, quite possibly...but highly doubtful....

It is more likely that upon death, our bodies degrade back into carbon form (our lowest form), and is reabsorbed into the earth.

Life is nothing more than a huge recycling project.

If you live in the Twilight Zone. When your brain that thinks those thoughts is gone so are the thoughts. Only love remains.

Interesting thought. I am skeptical of the "laws" of physics though. Those things get re-written every couple of years as we discover new stuff.
