I have a white westie that needs to take 1 pill a day for 10 days. I have tried masking the pill in peanut butter and she ends up getting all the peanut butter and spits out the pill. I have also tried holding her mouth open and putting the pill in her mouth until I think she has swallowed it, she ends up spitting it out a few seconds later.

We actually fed our chihuahua pills in cheese singles. You can press the pill in and fold the cheese over and they didnt even know it. We tried to put it in their food but they would just eat around it. He likes cheese so much that this method worked, plus it works as a treat for them as well.

You may want to try putting it in a chunk of canned food, or a piece of meat of some kind. If that doesn't work, try again with opening her mouth, putting the pill as far back in her throat as you can, and clamping her mouth shut while stroking downward on her throat. This will make her want to swallow, and the pill should go on down when she does. If this doesn't work, you may be able to put the pill towards the back of her throat and quickly put a blob of peanut butter on her tongue. While she's trying to lick the peanut butter off, she should end up swallowing the pill.

You have to place the pill in the back of the throat, close the dogs mouth and the rub the throat in a downward motion so that the dog with swallow. Any vet will tell you to do it this way if putting it in food does not work. Never ever mash a pill up! If anything break it in half and give it in two different food types.
If for some reason none of the above works, then ask your vet if there is a liquid form that you can give.

Wrap the pill in a bit of meat or.....hold her mouth open, put a bit of butter on the pill and push it down, keep her mouth closed and rub her throat gently til she swallows. Those little meatballs from frozen foods work pretty good. Just thaw,insert pill and give to pooch. Hope this helps!

When you put the pill in her mouth, hold her mouth shut and gently rub her throat from her mouth down, this will help with get her to swallow. To make sure that she has swallowed the pill, make sure to rub her throat like that until she licks her lips.
The pill will be gone. Be sure to tell her shes a good girl and give her a treat.

My vet said to hold open my dogs mouth and stick the pill in there with your finger. Push it back untill it's almost gagging her, then she'll have no choice but to swallow it.
If that doesn't work then buy a can of soft dog food and hide the pill in that. She'll be so busy eating she won't notice the pill.

I usually use a bit of wiener..3 small pieces...hollow out a spot for the pill in one...give the first, quickly followed by the second, then the one with the pill, while quickly following by the third..
For my very savvy old girl..I use a chicken liver the same way..Only using as little of the liver as I can..as too much isn't good for them..Raw is fine, unless you are sqeamish, then boiled a minute is OK..
cheese will often work as well as the wiener..

If she lets you put the pill in her mouth, then keep going and stuff it into the back of her throat. If the thought of all that dog spit is too icky for you, place the pill in her mouth, hold her jaws closed with your hands and blow one hard breath on her nose. The swallow reflex will kick in automatically.

I've had good results with wrapping it up in some luncheon meat. You could also try sticking the pill inside a ball of cheese or any other soft food that you dog likes. They gulp their food so they usually don't notice a pill in something like that.

I have been successful in the past by shoving it into a piece of meat or cheese so the dog has to chew and swallow, but also crushing it and adding it to some wet food usually does the trick.
