While travelling from chicago to hawaii united airlines piolets ask a math question. And the person witht the closest calculated answer wins a prize. The question is something like... If you are travelling at x mph and for 1/2 the trip and y mph for the remainder of the trip, then what time will you arive at the exact 1/2 way point?
If you know what im talking about please leave me the math question im dying to get another shot at it

The piolet said... " Plane leave Los angelos at 0900 for the first 1/2 of the trip the plane is travelling at 345 mph with tail wind of 35 mph and the 2nd 1/2 a tail wind of 40 mph then at what time will the plane be at the exact 1/2 way point! However i did not hear the entire question and i dont know if he said... tail wind or forward wind. And i dont know how to calculate it... it was so frustrating as i did not win the prize. But be preparred for it. He wants the time to the nearest seconds.

Wow, I have flown to Hawaii on United at least 8 times and have never heard of this. Maybe you just had a pilot that was having fun the last time. Just take a calculator with you and try to guess. The prize will probable just be a set of wings, United is to cheap to give you something good.

WTF???
You mean the pilots don't know the answer???

On a serious note; This is a two part equation:

You need to know at least one more "known":
a) the total time of the flight or
b) the total flight distance from Chicago to Hawaii or
c) the halfway point of the flight from Chicago to Hawaii
You already know the rate (mph)
You already know the start time (0900)

i know what you're talking about however... you cant really cheat, cause they take into consideration the wind speed and the plane speed and you would also need to know the equation for the great circle (the shortest distance from one place to another on earth).... i think being a lucky guesser will be the only way to victory....:)

sure it does. The flight is operated by using TACA yet you purchase it with American airways. once you arrive to the airport they'll deliver you to do the examine in in a TACA counter and useful you will aboard a Taca plane. i do no longer know why they do this. it is why TACA sucks to me. no rely what ur boarding bypass says, you sometimes will bypass directly to El Salvador.

He was just trying to distract you because he flew off course when he was in the rest room with the stewardess.

Always guess "C" cause they always use that as the answer.
