I know I'm dating myself, but the dog on the old tv show Petticoat Junction was named Dog. Everybody thought that was really cool back then! :) Still is.

Not very... I worked at 2 boarding kennels and probably 1 out of every 20 or so dogs was named that. A name is important. Your dog will be with you for about 10-15 years on average. consider that carefully

My Aunt had a cat named Dog and a dog named Cat. Drove the neighborhood kids crazy in a fun way.

I also had a male dog named 'Boy Dog'

Not real cool. "Dog" with the right adjective can be a cool dog's name. I've known a "girl dog" and a "z dog".

It's probably cool...but dig this. I had a friend who owned a dog without legs. He named him Cigarette. He used to take him out every night for a DRAG.

Its too boring try something like the name trouble or pooch ,or anything a reall name even but dog is just boring.Good luck
