As a child I was told to chew food slowly 75years old and still going strong

Yes, it is. The more you chew your food, the more broken down it becomes before hitting your stomach. The stomach and intestines have to work less at digesting it, and you actually absorb more nutrition this way. Also, chewing your food takes time, and the longer it takes to chew your food, the less you have a tendency to eat. It takes the brain a full 20 minutes to realize you're completely full. If you wolf down your food, you could eat two or three large servings in 10 minutes and we all KNOW you'd be full (overfull, actually) but your brain wouldn't realize it yet. By doing this, you'd be over eating and getting too many calories and fat.

heard the ol saying, chew food atleast 21 time's befor swallering,
it makes it easier to digest
