The most likely answer is that you are building muscle which is a GOOD thing! Muscle will raise your metabolism so you will, pretty soon, start to drop weight and you've already begun to burn fat. You'll also keep the fat off better with more muscle.
Muscle burns more calories even at rest than fat does, which is one reason this is a good thing. A pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat, so you will also begin to see your measurements shrinking much faster than if you weren't adding muscle.
You will like the way your body looks as you lose weight with the added muscle.
So relax and keep it up. You'll be happier for it in a few weeks.
Also water retention will come and go. You may well be holding water. Be very sure you are drinking enough water, at least 8 cups a day, and eliminate any soda, even diet from your life.
Also..be sure you really know what you are eating. Sometimes we think we are eating well but may be consuming either too many or not enough calories. Believe it or not, eating too little will also slow your weight loss.
You might want to try a website like www.sparkpeople.com, where you can track your exercise and diet online to see how well you are doing.

Everyone is going to tell you its because you are gaining muscle, but that is probably only the case if it's been a month or more. Realistically? You probably just think you're sticking to a healthy diet. You need to take a good luck at what you're eating and be honest about how much you're exercising. If you are truly working out very hard and eating right, you will lose weight. period.

Muscle does weight more than fat, so measure your body to see if your contours have changed, that might be a better indicator than the scale. Or you might find one of those body compositional analysis machines, some hospitals have them, to see if your body fat has gone down and your lean tissue has increased.
Also, have you just stopped smoking? Your metabolism is speeded up by the nicotine, etc., in cigarettes, and once you stop, you must reduce your caloric consumption by 10 to 12% to compensate for the effect that the cigarettes are no longer having. This may be part of the answer for you.
If it might be water weight, try drinking tea and/or coffee for a natural diuretic effect, or you might shop for diuretic pills, there are some that have vitamins in them, that might be just the ticket.

Weight fluctuates. You might be retaining water. You probably AREN'T gaining muscle. Contrary to popular belief, it's hard to gain actual pounds in muscle and it takes awhile. I'd say ditch your scale and use a tape measurer instead to gauge your process.

You're building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat or anything else. Don't just weigh yourself, get a tape measure and use your clothing (tank top and jeans preferably) to gage your progress.
Also use the fab pounds and inches lost tracker at this site: http://www.f-heit.com

Are you doing weights? if you do weights you will gain muscle. don't worry about it. just make sure you don't eat too much starches that will bulk you up. you want lean muscle. eat more vegetables, whole wheat grains..cereals with less sugar too. fresh fruits is better. stay aways from juices.

It could be water weight. Make sure your last meal is at least 4 hours before you go to bed, drink lots of water. Keep it up, you will get there, and you will be glad that you did hang in there.
