That's impossible to predict without knowing the basic personality of both the cat and the dog. GSD puppies tend to have a lot of energy, which can intimidate a quieter type of cat. Or else the cat may decide to make "shepherd sushi" out of the dog's nose if it's too pouncy. Or they can become the best of buddies -- hard to say.
I suggest introducing them for short periods of time on neutral ground -- i.e., somewhere that neither animal has claimed for its own territory. Don't make a big fuss over either one, and if there's any snapping or hissing, end the session right away with a gentle correction to the one being aggressive. Watch how they interact, and make a decision from there about if they should spend time together.
Chances are that they will learn to adapt to each other over time, but supervise them until they do. Better safe than sorry when it comes to their safety with the other one.

I have both a German Shepherd puppy (now 9 months) and two cats.
In my case, we already had the cats and the pup came into our home last. My cats were a little upset with the new addition at first but they got used to her. As soon as our pup started getting bigger though, all she wanted to do was play and playing results in kind of chewing on the cats which they obviously did not like.
Now that they've been in the same house for over 7 months, they're used to each other, but the dog wants to play with them ALL THE TIME and they don't like to play. One of my cats is very laid back and takes the chewing on and the other runs away everytime he sees the dog coming for him.
They are doing alot better with each other but the dog still doesnt understand that the cats aren't toys. You really have to watch the dog carefully.
In your situation it may be a little different because you're introducing a new cat to your household while the dog has been there first. Just make sure you introduce them slowly and never leave them in the same room unattended until you know they will be ok with each other. It may take awhile but they shoudl be fine.
Good luck!

I have a shepard, and a cat. It might take a day or two for them to get acquainted. They will get along just fine. Just keep an eye on him for a few days. I caught my dog with his mouth around the kitty's head a few times. He wasn't biting the cat though. It did look like he wanted to though.
They get along fabulously now. My dog will be laying down--and out of nowhere the cat will run and jump on his face. My dog will look at me, put his ears back and trot away. It's comical.

The dog and cat might fight a bit but my 1 year old male cat got a long great with our 3 dachshunds and 3 labs. He gets a bit grouchy with the labs when they want to play but all cats do.

It will probably take awhile for them to get along. Dogs and cats arent the best of friends unless they have been raised together or the cat has been brought up around them. There will probably be alot of hissing and barking, but eventually they will get used to each other.

Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Cat to Dog Introductions". You should get some good tips there about introducing the two species to one another and ensuring the adjustment will go smoothly and successfully.

I had my cat before I got my shepherds, and since they grew up with her, they're very protective over her. They all still wrestle around and play together, and the Sheps knew not to be too rough with the cat, even when the cat got rough with them. Simply put, they're buddies. :)

Have them get acquainted in a neutral area and slowly introduce the dog to the home surroundings.

I think they will be fine. It might take a bit of patience to get there though. They are both still very young so they will be growing up together. They will chase each other at first.
