Let me explain a little more. My wedding is a country wedding (born and raised in the south) and the wedding itself is going to be very elegant, but the reception I want to be a full out party.....chicken wings, beer, dancin to the Stones and Allman Brothers and so on (I know, not very classy but it fits me and my fiance). But I'm worried about the awkwardness of my preacher being there and afraid I won't have as much fun because I'll be worried about being on my best behavior.....not that I'm going to get drunk or start dirty dancing, but you know what I mean.

Well, my preacher is very good friends with my parents and I've known him all my life pretty much....so more than likely he will be there.

I say if your at your reception having a good time and not causing any problems and your being responsible. I don't see the problem with you having a full blown out party at your reception with the preacher there. Your an adult and he is also. So it shouldn't matter what he thinks.

kittyrogers....I think you need to grow up. Why would you post a rude answer?
I understand where you are coming from. I live down south to and everything is much more strict......my preacher got a hold of my ipod one Sunday and listened to a few songs and he said "Good lord, I'm going to have to go home and repent!" and they were songs like the Stones, Allman Brothers,Waylon, Tom Petty......and also if you wear something short (like a skirt) that wouldn't be considered short anywhere else, here you are considered a whore. The rules are much different......
I'm thinking your preacher will leave though before people really start to party, so don't worry about it. Congratulations!

I love the idea of your reception, and honey, you don't have to worry too much about the preacher. I have done a many of wedding, and they don't stay long even if he even shows up.
He might come for a few minutes, but I doubt he will stay for long. Especially if it's a Saturday night.
Your reception sounds like so much fun, and so relaxing compared to the stuffy have to watch your elbows on the table kind. I just love it, and wish more brides would do something similar. My daughter had a picnic theme for hers, and it was very nice, At Cracker Barrell they have some lights with little miny mason jars on them, you should check those out.
You have the most happiest wedding of all....
God bless us all..............

Do not let the preacher's presence spoil your fun. Remember he came to the reception to party too! Besides if the reception runs late, which most do, more then likely the preacher will leave before it gets to wild. Besides your married now! I am assuming even if you do dirty dance it will be with your husband or bridesmaids. So relax and have a good time!
Congratulations and best wishes for many happy years together!

Well, for one, most preachers I've met truly enjoy having fun at a party! Most of their lives are spent maintaining a somewhat staid presence, and the opportunity to let loose a bit is usually fairly welcome.
Secondly, those who aren't open to the party are familiar with the fact that this does happen at weddings, and they become comfortable excusing themselves when things get beyond their comfort level. If he's not okay with how things are going, he'll just head home!

I know what you mean but don't let him spoil your moment. Your day is going to be so hectic and exciting that, that is going to be the last thing on your mind. You can drink and be socialable or you can drink and be stupid. If you do the first one your pastor won't even think twice about it. But if you do the second one then nobody will have a good time anyways. Just have fun it is your wedding afterall!!

Depends on ya' preacher/pastor??? When "My Daughter" married, our pastor was very hip...BUT, knew when to leave reception!!! Most preachers, etc. do leave. They did their job, got their tip...Generally weddings are on Saturdays, so he'll have to get up early for church the next A.M. IF, small southern town/city, all will find out the happenings, anyhow, LOL!!!
Its ya' day...Do ya' gig!!!

Don't worry about it. Chances are he'll eat and leave after visiting with a few of the guests. Even if he doesn't, dancing and drinking a few beers is not going to phase him. As long as you don't go hitting on the bridesmaids while your groom is dirty dancing with your father....
THAT might make it into a Sunday sermon.

I've never heard of the preacher attending the reception. At any rate, I say its your wedding, you have a great time regardless who is there. Congrats!

as long as you're not doing anything out of control it shouldnt be a problem. there is nothing wrong with dancing and having a few drinks and having a good time. he'll expect that of you at your wedding. have a good time and dont be worried about enjoying your day.
