Children tend to sleep deeply and it's startling to be abruptly woken. They also tend to react to upsetting things by crying, particularly if it's a child that is non-verbal or newly-verbal (babies and toddlers). Just be as gentle as you can...rub your hand in circles over their back and touch their hair and keep your face out of theirs. Wouldn't you be startled if you woke up with someone a foot from your face...you might cry too...

Some people wake up much better and easier if you let them wake up on their own. I am not a morning person and my son is not either. It is very difficult to get ready in the morning. The child could be crying just because they are not awake yet and don't understand what is going on.

who likes being woken up? i know i don't. kids don't like it all the more because they are less patient and they cry to cope with what they don't like because they don't know how to express it.
