I know you have to dial 011 for international calls and then the country code for the UK- 44, but what is the (0)? Do I dial it as 0114401737xxxxxx?

If you are dialling from US, dial 011441737....

the (0) is only necessary when dialling that number within the UK, where you would just dial 01737....

The '0' is written in brackets because you need to omit it when calling a UK number from abroad.

So, you would dial 011 44 1737 etc etc

This applies to MOST foreign countries.

I hope this helps....

PS: Make sure that you are using one of the cheap calling services!!!

If you are dialling the number from within the UK then it becomes the access code

01737 xxxxx - here the 0 stands for Subscribers trunk dialling to another exchange in another area controlled by a different exchange. Previously it used to be charged high rates but the advent of technology has overtaken the need and hence you get to dial cheaper just by including 0 as a prefix.
-->>AS a general rule of thumb (0) in any number is used from that number on to get to the particular number in its home area.

If you are calling from abroad then you need to dial
--> either +441737xxxxx from your mobile
--or--
-->> calling 00441737xxxxx from your landline..Mind you that this also works in the mobile but just keeping the button pressed on your mobile for 2 seconds will make it "+" so there you go..

here 00 is called the international access code that is followed by the country code..
Some of the examples are
USA 001
Canada 0011
India 0091
Australia 0061(not sure though)
etc..

Hope that answers your question.....

The (0) is only for local calls. You leave it out if yuo are calling long distance.

So it would be 011 44 1737 xxx xxx.

When dialling from outside the UK, you skip the (0), as that's only used when dialling the area code inside the uk, like this:
01737-xxxxxx

From the States, you dial it as
+01144-1737-xxxxxx

I normally use a phone. Oh - and dial for an international number (I believe it's 00 if you're in the US) and drop the (0) as that's for calling within the UK.
