good one... to attract attention maybe, in the hope that someone will come and help us? hominides are social animals, so they likeliness that a fellow member of the pack would be close enough to help us when we get hurt is quite likely. as for the risk of attracting less welcome company and being eaten, it can't have been that high or we wouldn't be here to wonder about it. ;)
