I have tried everything I could think of to get rid of this with no luck.

I also have Word 2003.

Have you tried selecting the cell and clicking on the filler icon and selecting White or No Filler?

Have you tried selecting a particular cell, clicking on the Copy Format icon and pasting the format into the "yellow" cell"?

Have you tried inserting a new row in your table either above or below the "yellow" cell and copying the content of every cell in that row except the problem cell? You would then manually type in the content of the problem cell and delete the the row the problem cell is in.

If the yellow cell is still there, maybe you have a borderless yellow rectangle over the cell. To test for this, you could resize the table and see whether or not the yellow color follows the cell size and shape.
