Not sure about Omega oils, but St Johns Wart is highly recommended for depression, however check with your GP if you're on the pill as it can interfer with the effectiveness of some types. Hope you feel better whatever you decide.

Hi. First of you have to think of why you are depress. And that could be for any reason. You have not stated. How ever. Omega oil's are very good for you. If you take the right amount on a daily basis. So my advise to you is to work out why you are depress. Then start work on your recovery. And do take omega oil's. Good luck. Hi again. I took prozac. And they made me feel worse.

My Aunt swears by Omega 3. She has sufferred depression on and off for about 20 years. She suggested to my mom who was on vallium to try 3 a day for the first month and then one a day after. My mom said she felt alot clearer in her mind and felt more relaxed and calm as a result. It is definately worth a try but I would suggest discussing it with your GP before you stop the prozac, they generally know best.

Good on you, pills are not the answer.
The first answer is good but not always possible for physical reasons.
One morning when you see the sun rise and find yourself looking at it, tell yourself this time you are going to cure it.
Sit down and think of nothing except the alternatives you can bring to mind. Make a list as you go and then choose one or two and if that doesn't work try another.
Be patient too as one or two days of change will not be enough.
I know it won't be easy but something worth having never is.
Good Luck and may the force be with you, your own force.

The two active ingredients of omega-3 fish oil are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). EPA is considered to be the ingredient with the therapeutic effect, so it is important to buy omega-3 that contains more EPA than DHA. A pilot study of EPA on depressed patients produced a beneficial effect while in another study DHA proved a total dud.
You need about 1gm EPA a day.
Try to find a brand with as little DHA as possible as this is thought to lessen the effect of the EPA. Also try to find a brand with as little other oils, as these are only fattening.
I tried EPA for about 2 months whilst not taking an anti-depressant, having read loads of research about its beneficial results. It didn't give me much relief from the depression, so I went back to conventional drugs. It is important to recognise if they aren't working and your condition is worsening, as you will need to seek medical advice.
Definitely give them a go...and good luck

I dont think so, i tried them for awhile cause I didnt like the thought of taking meds for the rest of my life to feel normal... I
f you are trying to go the non-perscription way, you have to take those vitamins or supplements and change your diet as well. There are alot of books on it and how your eating and what your eating can help make you in a better mood for people with mild depression and anxiety... like the sleeping problems and constant tiredness or edginess.
But if you are like me and have some sort of chemical mix-up in your brain sad and annoying as it is. Then simply changing your diet and taking supplements doesnt really help that much... (it does make a slight difference, you feel better and more alive with energy because your eating right and exercising with the supplements) but if you are really depressed or have bad anxiety it really doesn't do all that you want it to. It depends on where your at. If anything talk to your doctor or psychologist and tell them thats what you want to do. They can tell you the healthy ways to do it and the sucess of it actually working for you.
Good Luck!

Well if you ask me, theres no magical cure for depression, only stuff that covers it up or hides it. Best thing to do is search inside yourself for the answers. Doctors recommend a healthy lifestyle, doing stuff you find fun, taking up new interests and adventures, plenty of excercise and a glass of warm milk before bed to help you sleep.
