My male cat seems to be doing it all the time, I'm worried he doesn't like to play anymore. He just sits and lays around and licks and licks.
Has he gone mental or should I have him put down?

By "Nookies" I mean Nipples. I'm sorry for those of you who may have miss understood.
Of all the cats I've owned, this is the first time I've noticed this kind of behaviour in a cat.
He's tinkles are fine and regular (the peeing) and his poopage is consistent with his diet intake. I guess I should take him to see his doctor.

This is a bad sign - your male cat may have a blocked urethra and he is licking his nookies in an attempt to either clear the blockage or relieve the pain.
Please take your cat to the Vet immediately as UTI is a life-threatening medical condition in cats.
I had a male cat once that did the same thing you are describing. I thought at the time that the cat was just being super-fastidious about cleanliness. A few days later, I came home to find the cat listless, depressed and in obvious discomfort. I rushed him to the vet who knew at once what was the matter. My cat had a blocked urethra which prevented him from peeing. If I had waited any longer, the vet told me that cat could have died.

By nookies, I'm assuming you mean his private area.
Um...how else is it going to get clean? I doubt YOU want to lick it clean.
That being said, cats can groom excessively for many reasons; fungus, parasites (worms, fleas, etc.), bowel problems (if their butt hurts, they'll clean it more often) boredom....and some cats become obsessive and neurotic. The cleaning becomes less of a necessity and more of a compulsion. Some cats get so bad they start to pull their own hair out while cleaning.
If you think his cleaning is excessive, take him to the vet.

Cats are among the cleanest animals there are, there always cleaning them self's..This is normal behavior..Maybe if you got a cat book so you can learn more about your pet, instead of being quick to put him down for doing something that's totally normal for a cat!

Sometimes male cats, like any other male, like to enjoy themselves. If you are worried he is doing it to much, try a distract him or engage him in play.
He just found something that feels good, time to help him find something else.

I second the person who said UTI. It is a big problem in male cats. Take your cat to the vet now.

Just grooming, maybe he is bored, needs some toys, and attention. (I would even suggest a female cat, but there really are more than enough kittens around)

It could be worse, dear,...I have 2 males, both fixed,...one's idea of play is to lick himself to woodness, and dryhump the other,...I'm thinkin he was fixed at an older age,...
