My wife and I are debating when's the best time to eat dinner. I believe it's better to work out first then come home and eat dinner, which is usually around 8 pm. My wife thinks it 's unhealthy to eat that late and so wants to eat first and then wait an hour then workout around, which entails us going to the gym around 8:30 pm. I always thought it was better to always eat after you worked out.

Any articles or links pertaining to this would be most appreciated as well. Thanks

I say eat 1st then go work out.......1st of all you shouldn't eat after 6 or so in the evening!!! 2nd of all once you work out you can get a shower and go cool off..... you wouldn't have to worry about cooking or going out.......

If you are going to have a late dinner, the best thing to do would be to exercise after the dinner so you can burn off some of those calories and not go to bed on a full stomach. If you exercise before dinner, you might want to eat even more because you are hungry, and then you will be going to bed on a very full stomach. Many doctors have told me to not go to bed until at least 2-3 hours after eating a meal.

Well if you are going to work out first you should not eat a heavy meal eat something that will help give you energy lean meats and veggies and wait an hr. that's fine. You will also not feel hungry after you work out if you eat before you work out that seems to be working for me...If you do eat after working out, your body is still buring calories for the next 2 hrs and you may tend to eat too much...because you will be very hungry!

I think it's not very good eat so late since you will be going to bed in the next 2 hrs.

I usually eat around 6pm then work out at 7:30 it works out well for me.

i don't think your wife is as focused in on the the working out before or after you eat as she is the fact that you aren't eating dinner till a couple hours before you go to sleep.. in this case i'd say you both have valid points.. you usually will have a better workout if you workout before you eat.. but you also don't want to eat right before going to bed... maybe move the workout to the mornings?

It is better to eat after. Your energy and matoblism are increased from the exercise. You will burn your food faster. Eating before might give you cramps or an upset stomach.
