You should ask her which detergents she is using. Maybe she has her own little recipe and pours together chemicals which develop gas together. It can happen if she uses bleaching agents together with other stuff. That could release chlorine. Besides making fabrics white it is a harmful gas. And if she uses too much then it could hurt, yes.

But without knowing what exactly she is using a scientific answer is not possible.
Regular detergents do not develop harmful gas or smell. Their perfumes are low dosed and may in very sensitive people cause allergies. But - it seems this is not what is happening when you mom is washing.

Does your mom sometimes run the washing machine with hot water and bleach or baking soda? Sometimes a mildewy odor can build up if that isn't done.

Otherwise, you would be better off staying away from the washing machine while it's running: Some people are very sensitive to smells, and you may be one of them.

Do you know what you smell?

Good luck!

lol it is actual humorous! i replaced into taking a formative years progression type in school years in the past, and between the flaws it specifically mentions is to "in no way tell the baby 'wait until your father/mom gets abode." whilst the instructor asked us if it ever occurred in our properties, the female next to me stated her mom were doing it for years, yet her dad hasn't come abode yet. we don't do this in the time of our abode inspite of the incontrovertible fact that. My son thinks the two me and Mr Dawna are the two evil.

You may be sensative to the smell. Try to just keep your distance from it while it is running. It isn't bad for you as it is cleaning your clothes and helping with good hygiene!
