Charlie horses usually shouldn't last too long. I usually get them when I am in bed at night, and then the only thing that I can do is try and stretch my legs out as straight as I can and wait for the pain to subside before I get up and then really stretch my legs out. I have been told that potassium does help, so try and incorporate that into your diet. If the pain is lasting more than a few seconds to maybe a minute or two it may not be a charlie horse. You may have pulled something, and should probably get it checked out.

Immediate - massage and stretch; less immediate= heating pad and icepak alternating at 3 minute intervals; longterm- eat banannas daily or drink Dr Pepper (high potassium content). any combination over a day of activity!

I usually have to stomp my feet like a fool and rub my leg to get them to pass.
I haven't had one in a while (knock on wood) -- when I do they wake me up in the middle of the night.
