I lost my thyroids and one parathyroid to cancer 5 years ago and take Levoxyl which works as my thyroid (to put it simply). What weight loss supplement on the market can I take with that drug, since they effect your metabolism? I need to lose about 40 lbs.

As an RN...Upon rereading up on Levoxyl in my PDR...I would suggest ya' NOT attempt to take any weight loss supplement!!!

To quote PDR..."Don't take with ANY other medicine without consulting your doctor or pharmacist"

As "Levoxyl is a replacement for thyroid hormones lost due to deficiency".

I would give the Levoxyl at least 6 month (Depending on ya' doctor, blood work, etc.) to see if the weight doesn't come off with this RX. Since Levoxyl does "Increase cell metabolism rate". Again, plz speak to ya' doctor, maybe this is not correct RX for ya'???

Without knowing all RXs, etc. ya' taking...As well as what other medical conditions exist...I wouldn't suggest trying anything without a doctor's orders!!!

Ya' also mention having had thyroid cancer...
...CONGRATS on reaching the 5 year mark!!!

If ya' still on any steroids, they will def' cause much bloating, hence, weight gain.

By law, RNs can NOT diagnose...PLZ, see ya' doctor???

the problem with the majority of these weight loss products is that we just don't know the answers. They are considered 'food' by the FDA. That means they don't need to establish therapeutic dosing, safety standards, or determine if there any drug interactions.

I have watched weight-loss products come and go for 18 years. And something I've observed about skeptics is that they are ALWAYS right.

Diet+exercise = weight loss.......and it won't screw up your thyroid medication.
