The PoleStar Project advances appropriate methods for sustainable development analysis. Sustainable development seeks to reconcile environmental, social, and economic dimensions of development, taking into account the needs of both present and future generations. This requires a broad view that encompasses an array of issues, multiple spatial scales, and a long time horizon. Named after the star that guided voyagers through uncharted waters, PoleStar was launched in 1991 to address this challenge.

Described by many as “the best training format ever," PoleStar is a new “edu-gaming” concept in learning. The goal of this full-day training is to teach the concepts and benefits of IT Service Management built around the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). The course consists of minimal lecture relying on a highly interactive learning environment where participants assume the various roles responsible for delivering services to their customers.
Throughout simulation exercises, participants continue to improve their IT Services to their customers. Improvements come from understanding the benefits of a structured process methodology and implementing these processes in the PoleStar environment. The participants will experience improvement in their processes from total chaos (the first round) through fully integrated processes resulting in maximization of revenue for the business

The earth spins on its axis. Sitting on the earth , we "see" the sky above us rotating in the opposite direction. If you sit on the north pole , you wont see the rotation.. If you could extend the earth's spin axis northwards so as to pierce the celestial northern hemisphere, thepole star will be near the piercing point
