It just gives them someone to point the finger at since our country is falling apart. I'm sorry but I don't think this one issue is the sole factor in why the U.S. is so screwed up. Funny thing is, these people only seem to focus on the illegal MEXICAN immigrants, even thought there are illegals of all ethinicities here in America. That boils down to ignorance and hatefulness. And with all the other problems (i.e. global warming, corporate greed, social security, health care, disappearing pension programs, AIDS, child abuse, not to mention to neverending war in Iraq, you'd think these people would actually have something more to say. They all say the same things. "Do it the legal way...they're killing Americans...they're taking our jobs..." Now, if all these illegals actually had gone through the proper channels, I still believe these people would still have something to say about "all the damn Mexicans taking jobs from AMERICANS." So, there's no making these people happy. They'll just find another scapegoat.

Now, some people are only fixated on the "legality or lack thereof" point. Strangely, i'd be willing to bet that the majority of these people who are screaming "follow the laws" break them themselves. So many of these people think they own AMERICA, when they don't. The true owners of this land were stripped and we're the products of the very immigrants they so despise, illegal or not. I'm sure a couple of their ancestors snuck under the radar, too.

Bottom line, people have been coming over the border without the correct paperwork for generations. Only now, in an attempt to distract people from the war in Iraq and all the lies that are slowly coming to light in our wonderful government, illegal immigration has taken front and center. How ironic.

People need to start thinking critically about issues before they start blabbing regurgitated opinions. They say they wouldn't care if these people just had their papers. Yea fuking right. And I'm the tooth fairy.

Illegal immigration is against the law. There's no hate, at least not on my part, but a lot of things have happened across our borders that've helped to do bad things in our country, and it's caused many problems. Legal immigration is OK, illegal immigration is not. I don't care how much money's involved, this one's a matter of principle. That brings up a good point, by the way. Since using illegal labor IS lucrative, it means there's a lot of companies out there 'flying under the radar' in terms of their compliance with US labor laws.

Mexico needs to figure out how to get its' own economy going, instead of figuring out how to unlawfully insert itself into ours.
Having the border fence and good border law enforcement will help both countries. As for the other countries illegals come from, the same concept applies. This is the 21st century, not 1412. Other countries have the basics of what they need to build better futures, abusing our immigration laws is not a good way to advance in the world. It might be lucrative, short-term, for some people, but long-term, it adds to the overall tax burden, and causes emnity and dissent, and the language barrier doesn't help matters, either.

People that want to live and work in the United States need to at the very least, make a good faith effort to learn english, and leave the old country's problems behind. If they can't do either or both of those two, then I don't know...and furthermore, it all needs to be legal, and above-board, or no sale.

Support the US Border Patrol!

The sheer number of them has ruined many of our schools and is ruining others. Think of yourself as a parent with children in those schools. How would you feel?

We limit poor immigrants because even if poor people pay all taxes they owe, they still pay little towards their costs in services like education and health care. We fund the rest and the funds for schools and health care are 'stretched' to cover these huge numbers of people, degrading the service given to our own children and sick. That is why EVERY country limits how many poor immigrants can come.

They don't have a 'right' to come easily, or at all.

Would you apply the same argument to excuse a bank robber, or a guy, who stills a walet from your pocket? Is him being poor make it less of a crime?
If he can't get money legally, does it make it ok for him to take it from you?

Many AMERICANS are in their shoes, and I would rather take care of our own before pandering to another countries undesirables. Do you know whose jobs they take? Black and hispanic American citizens who are less likely to have a college education. Just another way our government will sell out the minorities to look like they are compassionate to others. Do you feel safe knowing that millions of illegals can get in this country when many people would like to see us ALL dead. Do you feel comfortable knowing that 1/3 of the United States prison population is illegal? Sure some people work hard, but others commit crimes. And no one even knows they are in the country. Have you heard of the Railway Killer? An illegal who brutally murdered people in several states, who was also an orange picker and did other migrant jobs to move from place to place. He was caught and released 9 times, all the while killing people. Do you open your door to strangers? No, because you don't know them and it isn't safe. Is your country any different? The FBI is currently looking for an Arab terrorist who got in through Mexico. Do you feel safe? Do you know that many would be victims of the Rwandan genocide still took the time to arrange visas? They were killing babies, women, children, and still these people filled out an application even though every day they lived in fear of death. Have you seen your hospital bill lately? Do you know why it is so high? Hospitals are forced to eat the cost of illegal care. Whose going to find them and make them pay for it? Alot of times they use false names or fake id's. Speaking of Id's, do you know that increasingly more Americans are victims of identity theft? Put yourself in THEIR shoes. Do you know what your property tax goes to( and if you are a renter, you still pay this tax, by way of rent increases), in some areas it goes to services like public school for migrants. Citizens CAN be turned away. 67% of all illegals are visa overstays. Not the desert border crosses you see on TV. They HAD a visa and CHOSE to break the law. You need to start reading and stop parroting what other people tell you.

I think most people already "hit the nail on the head". It is not about hating someone because of their race. As people have already said, it's about immigrants coming over illegally...from any country. The reason why Mexican illegals are focused on is because there are so many. Our hospitals are closing, I have been passed over on several jobs because I don't speak spanish. Why should I have to learn spanish if I don't want to? I'm all for anybody coming here legally to better their lives and the lives of their families, but not illegally. Yes, there has been people in their shoes, but they were honorable enough to come here legally. Healthcare, that's a sore subect with me. I have a sick mom that can't get any state funded benefits and yet I see illegals getting them all the time, just because they can come over here and have 20 babies. My grandfather was a pilot in WWII, my uncles in Vietnam, my husband in the Navy. When benefits or jobs are taken from an American citizen who was born here and whose family fought for our freedom, and given freely to an illegal immigrant, it makes us mad. Tell me if the tables were turned and we started going to their country sucking up all their resources they wouldn't be mad? Right. If I went to Mexico tomorrow, I would have to learn spanish! They would not go out of their way to assist me with S***! So if you are here illegally think about that. You are breaking the law, you are taking resources away from Americans, so you should leave and if you want, re-enter the country LEGALLY. Pay your own way, and for the love of God....Learn to speak english! Just a side note....
Anyone tired of having store ads and various products in two languages?
Having the schools contantly ask what the primary language is in the home?
Calling a company and having to listen to the spanish options?
Just curious.

Projects a $61.5 Billion a Year Local Price Tag by 2010
Washington, D.C.—If an illegal alien amnesty and guest worker program similar to the one being contemplated by the United States Senate and supported by President Bush were enacted, the cost burden to state and local governments would be staggering, projects an analysis by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). FAIR estimates that state and local costs associated with illegal immigration for public education, health care and incarceration, now about $36 billion a year, would balloon to $61.5 billion by 2010 a 70 percent increase and increase to $106.3 billion by 2020.

As a result of an amnesty and a vastly expanded guest worker program, millions of current illegal aliens would gain legal access to government programs and services. Moreover, newly legalized aliens would be allowed to bring their dependents to this country, adding to the burdens on schools and public health care. Similarly, state and local governments would have to provide for the education and health care of the dependents of the 400,000 new guest workers called for in the Senate proposal.

Contrary to claims by proponents of amnesty, the tax contributions of newly legalized illegal aliens would not offset the additional costs. The estimated 12 million illegal aliens in the U.S. are overwhelmingly poorly educated and low skilled. Even with legalization, their earning potential would be very limited. With the ability to legitimately claim dependents on their returns, their tax contributions would be negligible at best, and with programs like the Earned Income Tax Credit, many will actually get more back than they pay in.

“From every possible angle, an illegal alien amnesty and guest worker program would be a fiscal and administrative nightmare,” said Dan Stein, president of FAIR. “Never mind the fact that an illegal alien amnesty is a moral betrayal of the American public and immigrants who played by the rules. It would be an unfunded federal mandate that will bankrupt states, counties and cities all across the United States.”

What part of the word "illegal" don't you understand? I have no problem with you comming to this country. This country was built on the backs of immigrants. Just do it legally. You are a slap in the face to everyone who has gone through the process the right way.

I don't need to be in your shoes. When the country I have defended and worked for tells me I'm not qualifed for assistance but bend over backward for people like you who demand to be given things for free at my expense, I can get angry. I can speak "my mind". Get over yourself, you're not in our shoes and because you're too damn lazy and self centered to go about becomming a member of this country legally, you never will be.

And, in addition, this counrty is at war. As far as I'm concerned, if you are in this country illegally, you are a threat to National Security and thusly a threat to my family, friends and loved ones.

Go ahead, call me a names, Tell me I'm bashing your race, I don't care. I'm just speaking my mind...and unlike you, as a citizen of this country, I have every right to.

Who cares about them! They are breaking our laws, that makes them criminals. If it's so bad in Mexico, then you people should overthrow your government!! Do something to help yourself and your country! How stupid do you have to be to live in a country when you can't even speak the language and are to lazy to learn it!! You show no respect for our country that you are supposed to love so much, and what you are doing is ruining our country. It will not be the wonderful place you all want to come by the time you get through with it!! I don't care if you are in the middle of giving birth, they should throw you back over the border where you belong!! You want to leave your own country because of government officials being crooked and breaking laws, and then you come here and do the same thing! Before you know it we will have the same problems here. It isn't asking to much for you to go through the proper procedures and respect our laws. It just shows you are all CRIMINALS AND SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL!! It wouldn't hurt for you people to learn to use birth control either!!! How can we have any respect for you when you show none for us or our feelings or our country???!!! JUST SPEAKING MY MIND LIKE I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO BECAUSE I AM AN AMERICAN!!!

Hate comes from fear. Some US citizens have nothing else to be proud of apart from the fact they got citizenship for being popped out here. If you carefully go through this furum you will encounter such ignorance, it's unbelievable. These are animals, not human beings, for a human being possesses a certain level of intelligence, which you will rarely find here.
"They steal our jobs" ....sure, if you are stupid enough not to finish high school. Millions of Americans live on welfare when they are so many businesses hiring..."Help wanted" is all over the place! God knows how many welfare babies I'm feeding right now with my taxes.
If people could do it legally, none of us would be illegal.
