Comments like "Because, as Americans, we dominate the world.
and besides, WE can do what we want whenever we want" dont really endear Americans to the rest of the world!

I have never heard such misplaced arrogance in all my life. Americans are not morrally superior. They have little history and without the rest of the world you would have no population as 99% of your country is an immigrant population.

America as a whole is not an arrogant country but there are some fools in it that think we (I'm American) are better off. And that is why many countries hate us and would like nothing better but to see our demise. However there are other countries that think their poop don't stink either. There are religions as well. Any country that has been a world power has always brought their failure on themselves and it seems as if America is doing the same. When we try to help others think we are being a bully and should stay outta it. But if we don't try and help people criticize that so we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. But not all of us think that we are better then the rest of the world . I for one know that everyone else bleeds the same color so we are all equal.

Yes, I feel they can be. But NOT all of them - they can also be insular, ignorant, thoughtless and stoopid. I do get the general impression that they think they are the best - was visiting once and some guy on a national TV station said"I don't give a shi@ about what the rest of the world thinks we are the United States of America and we can do what we want" couldn't believe my ears, how about that for arrogance?
Don't' worry they are gonna isolate themselves so much from the rest of the world one day that they will only have themselves - but that's quite a worrying thought! They'll probably become even more paranoid.....joy

I'm an American, and I never think in such terms. No one in my family or social circle thinks in those terms either, so I have no idea where these arrogant Americans are coming from. Maybe they are just immature kids trying to get a reaction. Where someone is from doesn't mean anything to me. All that matters is a person's character.

there is no doubt that America has a very strong influence in the world stadium of politics. all Americans should take pride in that, their view's makes a difference to the world. but with pride there comes great responsibilities. unfortunately a few will replace there pride with arrogance's, most likely they don't know any better. throughout history arrogance's has proven the downfall of many superpowers e.g. Roman empire and the British empire to name but a few.
arrogance's to me means a lack of wisdom or not reacting to the information given that could help you, because you believe yourself 'untouchable'.
one horrible example of this that shock the world was 9/11
considering the powers to be had known of such threats well before it happens and did not react in time, shows that arrogance's is a sin(for the lack of a better word) to ones self.
i mean no insult or injury to any nation or individual it's only my opinion.
peace

quite understandable for a working person, however be assured that the arrogant American does exist and is also know as the Ugly American by their attitude not only in the states, but also while traveling through the rest of the world.
In fact I was told a joke that exemplefies this. What do you call a person that speaks several languages?= Multi lingual
What do you call aperson that spekas three languages?= Tri lingual.
What do you call a person that speaks two languages?= Bilingual.
What do you call a person that speaks one language?= Stupid American.
See what I mean?

Many nations in this world require aid of one kind or another. The USA is a country that needs a fleet of aircraft to drop the indigenous population with enough atlases, so that every US citizen can at least know the locations of those nations which it is bombing, attacking, threatening, occupying or threatening to dominate. The average American knows less of foreign affairs than the average hedgehog.
Having said that, the USA (thanks to many nationalities) has the greatest constitution in the world. Too bad its not enforced.
Where but in the USA can the Supreme Court outlaw the inhumane regime at Guantanamo Bay, yet it remains operational to this day - another flagrant act of defiance against humanity and against the civilized world.

I am not trying to offend anyone, but I would say that a large number or percentage of Americans may be patriotic, not arrogant in most cases. This patriotism may, however come across as arronce to someone who isn't familiar with the American mentality.
Well, so far I have only had positive experiences mingling with Americans.

One time at a McDonalds I heard a woman scream at a manager, "I'm not going to pick up my child's mess, you hired Mexicans, they should know what they're getting into". Needless to say, she's not welcome in that restaurant anymore and she got on her BMW (so I figured she wasn't poor or illiterate). I figure, (this is Texas, home of southern hospitality) if the northern states are colder, what kind of crap do immigrants have to take? Not to mention all the other stuff that happens in third world countries. Does the US deserve to be hated, I think not, do some Americans deserve it, by god, most definately yes.

As an American, I never really thought about it that way. But I guess you are right. We think we are untouchable, and we are (most of us) arrogant. No wonder other countries hate us.
We do live in a great country, and we are lucky to have been born here. I'm sure other countries are great too. Except France.
Just kidding, France too.

The ones who talk like that are the brave ones, they at least speak their minds and in a way I kind of respect them for it. They are ignorant and insular and can even be dangerous as they are armed but at least they are not cowards. The worse ones are the ones that say nothing and stab you from the darkness like the one mongrel from yahoo who keeps on following me around to kill the majority of my replies before they are voted best answers by the majority of voters. Luckily my life doesnt depend on this nor can they bomb me so do what you will. In fact you should kill some more replies so I can be motivated enough to stop buying overpriced web space from you.
