My oldest daughter, now almost 3 years, had this problem as well as hard stools. Her pediatrician said I could give her equal amounts of infant apple juice and water. Also dark Karo Syrup in their milk helps. If it lasts too long I recommend contacting your pediatrician, he or she can prescribe something if necessary, and may find the cause for the constipation if it is related to another problem.

Try fruits or 100% fruit juice with little to no sugars. Or you can always put some plums and peaches into a blender and make it into a moosh and try to spoon feed the baby. To quite honest I think that would be the more healthy thing to do. It's not like the baby has to chew is mooshy enough for him/her to swallow.

What kind of formula are you using?, Are you breast feeding?
Usually constipation is cause by the formula or lack of fluids, but your baby should get all the fluids he needs from his regular feeding whether is formula or not.
To get rid of the constipation, you must ask your pediatrician. He knows better than us.
Good luck.
