I'm usually attracted to older men, and I don't mean 2 or 3 years older. Do you think that there is a psychological explanation for this? You see, because I never grew up with any men in my house my friens think that I am attracted to older men because I see them as a father figure. Is this possible and if so, is it unhealthy?

I do know my dad, I just never lived with him and didn't see him much when I was younger

It has nothing to do with money!!! Firstly I'm too young to get married and secondly I made sure that I studied something that would provide me with financial freedom, regardless of my marital status!

It is not unhealthy actually it is common. Some say it is the father figure whereas others say it is the maturity. Unfortunantly men do not mature as young as ladies do and often times it seems they are on different emotional planes when we are younger that is one reason why I feel a lot of women look to older men. If you enjoy it then be happy. Remember you are the one responsible for your happiness.

Actually there is a 'psychoanalytical' explanation to this. Though feminists inherently disagree, females have an infantile attraction to their father, if he's not around after the initial contact, well as they say absence makes the heart grow fonder.
This 'infatuation' is repressed and resurfaces around adolescence and might stay on.
So you're transferring these feelings to other older men thanks to your superego(underdeveloped as it is)
You also seek the security given by a sheltering father figure that you probably didn't get to your satisfaction when you were a child.
This is not unhealthy though my explanation (as analytical and based on deductions as it is) might seem harsh.
As you'll grow older though other instincts will take over and you'll be attracted to younger men equally.

yes that could be possible but its not always.I grew up with my dad and I still like older men more then young ones the young ones are immature and worry more about partying. The older ones are more stable not just financially but emotionally as well.Well most older guys i should say not all the older ones are stable or mature lol.My hubby and I are 12 years apart he is 37 i am 25.I dont think being with an older man is unhelthy unless its the relationship it self not the age difference. If you love each other and have things in common then age knows no difference.

I don't necessarily think it is unhealthy, as long as it is a healthy relationship. I am attracted to older men as well. I think it is due to the fact that I am in the age range where the guys my age are mostly still all very immature. Guy mature slower than gilrs, for the most part. So you may be attracted to older men because they are more on your "level" of maturity.

You probably like the feeling of knowing he can't run as fast as you. lol

In reality I understand that some women just feel more comfortable with an older man for many different reasons such as they do not feel they have to compete, there is more stability within a relationship, they have more understanding due to a wider experience and probably many others.

Other women like men their own age or younger for all the opposite reasons such as they like to compete, they see the relationship as more of an adventure. They prefer a more casual relationship that they won't get with an older person and they get embarrassed when they go to pay their fare and their feller brings out a bus pass - just a bit more fun.

If you grew up without a father figure, then possibly yes. Its not necessarily unhealthy, except that you may lose the best years of your life hanging out with guys who may have had enough of life in the fast lane.

Your choice, hon.

I don't see any problem with it.

As an 'older' guy now 41, i've been out with older and younger girls and have done all through my life.

At 21 i had a fling with a 38yr old woman, just enjoy yourself, let other people worry about the age diffrence.
