I am not pregnant but I was wondering about this. What if I were to get pregnant while taking the pill but didn't know that I was indeed pregnant until the next month when my period didn't come. But I had been taking the pill for a month already. Will taking the pill each day hurt the baby? Thanks! :)

I am not going to assume whether there would or wouldn't be side affects to the baby, such as birth defects. My only suggestion, is to visit with your doctor, as soon as you can.

This happened to me. When I was 38 I found out I was pregnant with our 4th child. Our older children were 17, 15, and 12. I had been on The Pill for 11 years. It was such routine that I never missed a pill. When I went to the doctor for my yearly physical I mentioned a pain in my stomach every time I ate. She diagnoised Irritable Bowel Syndrome and promised a prescription that would help. I had had a lighter than usual period and she said I may be beginning menopause since both my mom and grandma began menopause before 40. She was visibly surprised when she did my exam saying my cervix felt like I was pregnant. I had to pee in a cup and the test came back positive for pregnancy!! We were all shocked. She listened for a heartbeat and we heard one clear as a bell. An ultrasound showed I was 17 weeks along and I had never missed a period. In addition to The Pill, I was also on high blood pressure medication and medication for migraine headaches. Abortion was never an option for us so we opted not to have any testing done, but there were potential complications from having been on medications. Because of my age and I developed Gestational Diabetes, I went to the high-risk diabetic clinic. I had an ultrasound and a non-stress test once a week for the 9 weeks before she was born so they kept close track of her and me. We had some labor and delivery complications, but now she is a very healthy 9 year old girl. My older kids are 27, 25, and 21 and my oldest is expecting our first grandbaby in April.

You need to stop taking the pill immediately if you are pregnant- it causes birth defects such as anencephaly, spina bifida, cerbral palsy- believe me I know this.

It is unlikely you would become pregnant while on pill but obviously there is a possibility. Take a pregnancy test- if it comes through positive, get yourself to the docs, stop taking the pill and arrange a scan to see if there is any damage to the baby.

I'm shocked there are people here saying it wouldn't harm your baby- it could cause serious damage!

No the estrogen levels in the pills are so low that the first month will not harm the baby.

I myself was on the pill and when I found out I was pregnant, I was three months. Period continued and everything. Only a blood test confirmed it.

I think for my 1st son I was on the pills for about 3 week then found out I was pregnant, I'm not to sure he is 6 now, and fine as can be. I was also on depo (the shoot) and got pregnant with my 2nd child. Now pregnant with my 3rd child, I was on the patch but changed to the pills b/c the stupid patch was causing my skin to break out in a bad rash. I was on the pills for 1month and found out I was pregnant, the Dr's said she is fine. I hope for the best.

It may, but its unlikey that one month will do any significant damage. However, if you take your pill for more than 3 months, the fetus may sustain enough damage due to the hormones that you'll miscarry or the fetus may need to be aborted.

New research shows that if you are pregnant with a male fetus and take the pill, his sperm count may be damaged and you could be making him infertile.

No the first month won't harm the baby however if you keep taking the pill past that, the baby will have defects.

Not for just three or four weeks. But, if you suspect pregnancy while on the pill, go ahead and take a test just to be sure.
