Personally I don't think you should give her money to carry around. At most you might give her a few dollars for an emergency. Kids having cash is a bad thing because other kids will try to take it plus you have no control over how they spend it. It is better to teach them to save their money and to get by without needing money each week to waste on silly things.

It sounds as if you are wanting to start an allowance. First you should set up some chores for you daughter. Then depending on the quality of her work, you should then give her money. This teaches her the quality of a dollar. That way she won't grow up thinking that life isn't handed to her, but instead she has to work for what she gets. Have her doing thing like washing the dishes, vacuuming, and cleaning her room. Then if everything is up to your standards, start her off with 5 dollars a week. You can increase if you want to. That's totally up to you.

$5 is plenty for a 10 yr. old, but don't just give it to her. I have my children do chores for their allowance. No chores no allowance. If you just give it to her, she will always expect it from you. We gave our kids $5 until about 13 or 14 then up to $10. My oldest has started driving now, so we have upped it to $15 for help with gas, but with more money comes more responsibility. Teach her very early the value of a dollar and working and saving for the things she wants. It is a very valuable lesson that will help her greatly in the future.
Good Luck!!!

Pocket money should be a reward for your child and not just an automatic allowance.
If you give your child to much, she will want more because she knows its easily accessible. If you give her an amount that is average then she will learn how to save.
Give her an amount that you know she can afford to buy sweets, ice-cream, toy, etc.

I like the 0 idea ('cause I got 0 when I was 10 too!), but if you feel you must give her something weekly, assign her an appropriate amount of chores to do so she can work for it. This will teach her that money is not a handout to be taken for granted.

We give our 8 year old $4 a week- a little more if he does REAL good in school. Out of that $4 he is required to take out $1 and put it into a savings account (that he, of course, can't touch). With this he is learning how important having a savings account can be.

Give her about $10-$20 dollars taht way she won't get herself in trouble but she will have money to go to the movies if she wants to. If she is not trustworth then ask her what the money is for and go from there.

I don't think it should just be given but it should be earned. But I think $5.00 is reasonable for a 10 year old. But I would subtract from that if the child didn't clean their room, do their chores, brought home bad grades, and etc.
