Lucifer let pride get the best of him. He is now power hungry and knows his time is short. Angels were given free will and we only know that because when Lucifer rebelled against the Almighty about 1/3 of the angels followed him. It's just as when you read about a foreign county that has a military coupe. Some leader there, usually a military leader, takes over because he thinks he can do a better job there. People follow other people because they put hope in what is promised them and think the leader can deliver on that. My guess is that it was the same with the angels that followed Lucifer. It has to be pointed out that while Angles are more powerful than humans, it is only people that have been made in God's image. One day believers will rule and judge angels which is a reflection of being in God's image because God is the ultimate judge. 1 Cor 6:3.

If Angels didn't have free will then accension of a human to an Angelic form would mean they simply become God's puppet. The Tree of Knowledge was said to provide humans with free will, who's to say this wasn't initially reserved for Angels.
Angels must have had free will for Lucifer to deny God's own will. Also God is far from perfect, in Genesis he created people that disobeyed him and ultimately felt he had to flush away along with the children of the Angels he'd cast out previously.

Lucifer thought he was the most beautiful angel , and that he deserved to take over because of this. At least that's what I was told growing up.

who says the angels don't have free will? not the bible thats for sure. what separates the from us apart from their power closeness to God and all the rest is that their purpose for existing is to serve God period. ours on the other hand is to choose to serve God. this is one of those questions like if God s so perfect or Smart why did he let lucifer rebel? thats an easy one so we would have to choose God and Good or Satan and Evil. If you will read some of the apocryphal books they give much more in depth details about satanael the real name of satan or his new name satanas the difference is one name means -----of God just like al the good angels and the other mean ------of self or of lawlessness.

Because he was not God? And where is it said that angels could not think for themselves? And where is it said that being a Christian takes the fun out of life? I read all sides on here and it seems that something is missing. Is it possible experience in the world.

Lucifer knows that fun is a necessary part of human lives. God missed that one, big time.

cause he was one of us in our creation read the bible make man in the image of us and he knew that man was not a perfect made so from the begining of time he set out to prove that we are a mistake look around you what do u see of our world today look at your people, we are human that was creative in the likeness of all that was in the heaven before our time and time and no way God going to creative men on this world to be test to do evil and wrong not unless something went wrong with the creation of men, yes he loves us and Lucifer still look at us and say what have we done and when will all this madness among the human race stop only one answer to that is we need to love one another more and try to find the truth to where we all really came from in the begining there was nothing until men was creative in the likeness of them read it in the bible

Everyone has free will. God will not limit free will from anyone, including angels.
God is perfect, however, Lucifer had no faith in himself. Those without faith in themselves didn't like God's perfect plan because they didn't believe they could accomplish it.

All of Jehovah God's intelligent creations have been given the gift of free will,to choose whether or not they want to obey their Creator.
Angels differ from us because we are human and they are spirit creatures. The word "angel" means "messenger".Therefore they not only minister to Jehovah, there are those who are His messengers also.
The angel who became Satan(meaning 'resister')and Devil(meaning 'slanderer'),desired the worship being given to God and as a result tricked Adam and Eve into believing that they didnt need Jehovah's direction and guidance and they rebelled and because of their sin, they grew old and died and Satan and his demons for their part are awaiting eternal destruction.
