Because they figure quiet people offer the least chance of fighting back. They make easy targets.

It's called bullying and some people feel so poorly about themselves that they pick on other people to feel better about themselves. Rather than doing something to lift themselves up, they push other people down in an attempt to feel better about themselves. All I can say is stick by your friend. If the bullies had friends they probably wouldn't act that way. Yes, I know, the bullies have "friends." But they are usually bullies too and will ditch their "friends" at the first sign of trouble. You need to be a true friend and stick with this friend of yours who gets picked on. It will make life a little easier for your friend, and in the long run, you're friend will be a much better person than the bullies will ever be.

I have no idea......it's really a poor thing to do to people. I was somewhat quite in school at times--not always though. I did feel bad for my friends of who were quiet, and got picked on. Honestly, I don't have a straight up anwser to your question other then, it's not cool at all. Just don't stop being friends with that person though! You'll find out later on, you'll be happy that you kept a friendship with that person.

Bullies always pick on who they perceive is easy, to feel empowered. Tell your friend that it only reflects how miserable they are, and may even be jealous of something that your friend has, and they wish they did

Could even be as simple as having a dad, a dog, or a weekly allowance!

Some friend. Anyway, they seem to be easy targets, pedestals for others to raise their own status because of. It's heirarchy there.

It is because they are so easy. They do not defend themselves. Bullys never pick on someone who will fight back.
