Apply permaculture design. Look to Cuba for good examples in a similar climate & topography.
but first there needs to be an honest & equitable society - then magically food will grow itself, food does grow on trees.

there is only one way to increase food production in Haiti, and that would be to send in the UN for about fifty years until we had a generation to draw on for independent rule. As to the water, it isn't properly treated and that is the major "misuse". Two alternatives to what? food production, or water source?
don't know where they get their water from; ground water or rain, just know the water they have isn't properly conduited or treated after use. They need to build some major infrastructure there re; sewage, plumbing, water supply
I imagine a lot of people collect rain and that this is their only real supply of water, but I really don't know

Its all about their goverment. thats the downfall. maybe if we send them a picture of Nicole Richie they'll start sending us food......
