1. You cannot learn Japanese by watching anime and reading a person's intepretation of the meaning. Japanese doesn't follow the same sentence structure of English so, by what even remote confidence can you say that you are remembering anything but butchered fangirl Japanese?

2. You cannot learn Japanese online. In fact, you cannot learn it for free at all. No education is free. Whether you're paying a tutor or flying to the country, money is leaving someone's wallet.

Japanese isn't a romance language; it's in a far away land with its own rules and pronounciations; traditions and culture. It has three writing systems; of which you'll need to know every single one of them. Each kanji usually comes with three or four different ways to say it, every one you'll need to know.
It has levels of informal and formal that you need to not only know and understand, but know how to use correctly so you don't come off as rude.

Do you think you can honestly understand all of this, fast and easily:
そこうで、山中氏は、自分に、お茶を入れさせるロボットを作る
ことにした。
言葉も話せたほうがいいと思って、言葉も話せるように作った。
Because, judging by your English, I vote "no".

I don't know about on the web, but Best Buy or Borders sell software and books (Borders) to help you learn it. If you can find it, I would recommend the Instant Immersion DELUXE ($40). I have the German one and it's great. It says words and you have to repeat them (requires a PC mic, but I got one for $10), it has crosswords, word searches, conversations, and a dictionary feature. It was 8 disks (4 CD roms, 3 audio CDs- great for the car, and a dictionary disk). I wouldn't waste my money if you find the $20 version (it's only 4 PC disks and I don't recall it having the "talk to me" feature). I had it for spanish and it really helps to pay the extra $20 and be able to talk to the PC. Did I mention is rates how well you repeat it? Here you go: I didn't find it on Bestbuy.com, but it may still be in the store- IE you wouldn't pay shipping.

Good luck! Oh and my 15 year old sister in law is taking Japaense in HS and she says it's pretty easy. That's just her opinion though.

Go to Borders and buy the Pimsleur tapes. I learned the basics of every language I know from Pimsleur.

I listen to them in the car and even the kids know it now.

Japanese is very easy... I love this language.

Hi. I studied Chinese for a year and the two languages share similarities. Sounds like you just want to be able to READ the language which, to me at least, is the easy part. To answer your question, search "Japanese language" and pick a site that looks good to you. http://japanese.about.com/ for instance.

i dont know of any place online, but go to your local bookstore in the languages section. There are different types of japanese speaking kits, and some come with dvd's or cd's or computer discs for proper pronunciation. i speak little japanese, but just bought a kit to get more comfortable with it before i go to japan.
good luck.
