Puppy foods are fattening, and they have higher protein concentrations which are not great for older dog's kidneys and liver. High protein and fat are why the older dogs want it. It's the difference (for folks who eat meat) between Fillet Mignon, and a hamburger. Both are good (and nutritious), but sometimes you just want steak.
Why don't you switch the dogs to the same brand adult dog food? Try mixing a few kibbles of the puppy food in there and see if that satisfies them.
Read "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N Martin. You will be shocked and amazed at what goes into pet food. Disgusting.
Quality dog foods include: Artemis, Wellness, Innova, California Natural, and Canidae. Look them up. You won't be sorry
Good Luck

Dogs are pack animals so of course they want to eat together. here is the thing: It will probably upset the small dogs digestion. So here is what you do. you give the dogs their food individually and in the same room, but on the other side. Which ever dog seems to be in the lead whenever you give them food is the dominant dog and you MUST respect the pecking order. Feed him first and wait until he is well into eating before feeding the other dog. the submissive dog will not take the other dogs food.

I know that puppy food is higher in protein than adult food but am not sure of any real problems with an adult dog eating *some* puppy food for a few months. I can't seem to get my cat to stop eating my dog's food (which doesn't seem healthy, either), but I'm with you and am not quite sure where the solution/compromise is. Good luck!

My Yorkie loved to eat our Rottweiler's adult dog food too. So what I did, was offer him some of the rottie's kibbles as a treat. I even added a few of them in my YOrkie's puppy food. But, I never let my small dog eat only adult dog food, it lacks the nutrients a puppy needs.

Not a whole lot. It's only slightly different. Kittens can eat normal adult cat food just fine. Of course, if the large breed food is expensive, keep him out of it!

large breed food is made for large breeds therefore contains more calories which big dogs need because of their size, you might get your dogs fat.

Probably nothing, just a little harder to chew (larger pieces). Just to be on the safe side, a call to your vet would'nt hurt tho.
