When you find out, please also enlighten me. I am from Tennessee and living and working in Boston. They say my accent is as bad as though I were speaking the language from a third world country. No matter where you are from, you will have the accent of the place where you spend your formative years. What I don't understand is why some people perceive some American accents to be okay and others to be frowned on. Keep on with your country accent and be who you are. Be proud of your difference and celebrate your individuality. Real people are a definate minority, fakey one are all over the place.

You have to understand that people do not accept other people just as they are. They get a perception of what and who they are and if it isn't good in their mind then it is almost impossible to change that.

Two things that I see in this question that may be the problem.
While there is nothing wrong with being country and talking a certain way it is another to purposely mis-spell words when typing.

No doubt you know that "ya" is really spelled "you". Lot's of ways to sound country and not mis-spell words.

Also I would have chosen a more country sounding yahoo name.
Lil_baby really is not it.

So remember if this offends....you ask the question. I do not intend to do that.

Anyone who, during the course of a conversation with you, looks you in the eye and tells you, "Look, your accent makes my heart cringe," is an *** and you don't need to continue the conversation. Go on, it's okay to walk away from them.

I was picked on for saying "home" and other words very precisely by a bunch of country sounding kids when I was little, and I changed my accent for a while, but now I speak the way I was brought up to speak. And oh well to anyone who can't stand it. If someone told me I needed to talk right, I'd just shut up and walk away or laugh and ask "what is right, aren't we all different?" and go on speaking.

You go, girl!

People in general tend not to like things when they are dissimilar to themselves. Certain accents have sterotypes associated with them.

If you are living a life and doing a job where this doesn't matter, then it's no problem. If you are running for some lofty position, or trying to do a job that interacts with people sensitive to this, unfortunately, your accent could alter your success.

It's too bad, but if want to win, you have to play the game. If your game allows who and what you are, then it shouldn't be an issue. I believe that people who pretend to be "someone else" tend not to be as happy as people who are genuinely at peace with themselves.

I have an accent as well......some enjoy it and some don't. At least I don't make two syllables out of the word "fruit" lol Enjoy what accent you have and don't pay any attention to the rest. Be yourself and be happy!
