I should have pointed out that if I'm tired at work, it's usually because I didn't get enough sleep the night before.

It is a matter of body chemistry. All too often people work to a point near exhaustion so they feel tired. The body needs sleep. But, people usually do not give themselves time to eat so the body needs food. Hunger is generated by neurological responses emanating from the stomach and other places of the body. Fatigue is emminated from all over the body, when you are awoke you use alot of energy. So, when you work alot and do not eat, you feel two effects fatigue and hunger. In your case the fatigue may be in lieu of hunger. So, you should give yourself more time to eat. Do you eat three appropriate meals a day? Or do you do what most of us, including myself,do? run to work, drink coffee or tea and a danish, then eat something for lunch, and get home and maybe eat snack food or some small meal. Remember the body needs alot of energy, if you are going to be 9 to 5

Its probably sugar in your diet thats causing the whole thing. If you eat sugar is makes you suggish and tired, and you'll crave snacks, or just be more hungry than normal.

Sugar does that to you.

I'd cut sugar out of your diet and try getting a little exercise (take the stairs, do some jumping jacks) before work.

I don't know what your diet consists of, but I do know that a high-glycemic diet can make your energy levels spike for a short time, then go way down again causing your body to crave more foods that contain these bad carbohydrates. It becomes a continuing downward roller coaster that can often times lead to diabetes and obesity. If you'd like more information about this vague answer I've given you, let me know! I'd love to help you get out of this rut of tiredness and snacking, and I do know how! email me-

Technically, your cortisol levels are elevated at work and this can stimulate your hunger since cortisol elevates your insulin levels. When your insulin levels aree higher than usual, it makes your blood sugar lower which automatically makes you hungry.

Normally you may ignor these feelings when you are busy....but when you are bored, you are trying to occupy time. You may day dream more, go to the bathroom more, or just doodle more. Snacking is a time occupier.

So for a very simple answer: you eat more because you body tells you to do something to satisfy yourself.

That's strange. Eating should make you tired. Like Uncle Ned after Thanksgiving dinner and falling asleep on the couch while watching football.
Maybe you need to exercise more to overcome the feeling of fatigue and subsequently the desire to snack.
Walk around work more when you're tired instead of reaching for food.
just a suggestion-- have a great day!!!

It could be that your blood sugar level drops. This makes you sleepy, and gives you a craving for snacks - especially sugary ones.

Try eating little meals to keep your blood sugar level even and consistent.

You feel tired because your blood sugar drops.... when your blood sugar drops, your brain translates that into hunger, hence making you want to eat.

People who are hyperglaucimic, which is a lesser degree of diabetes, tend to get sleepy, tired or grouchy when they don't eat

Eating gives you something to do, hence it keeps you awake, just like people who have midnight snacks or late night snacks.
Try chewing gum instead.

A small snack can give you some energy. Think about getting into your own small business.
