Certainly poor people could benefit from the resources given to the pastor. Didn't Jesus do this. Jesus was not materialistic like many of today's people.

Jesus did not live extravagantly. Why should pastors, who are supposed to be living examples to others

Most pastors that I know have families to support. No where in the Bible does it say for Ministers to take a vow of poverty. If pastors took that vow and followed it seriously, then their families would suffer.

Jesus never took a vow of poverty. He never had to. He had all his needs supplied. He even supplied the needs of others. True he was not materialistic but having the necessities in life isn't materialistic. I will say there is a difference between wants and needs. Wants lead to materialistics needs is what you have to have in order to live in this society.

Yes and no. A pastor should not use church funds to improve his life if there are needs inside the church. However, if God blesses the pastor with certain things and he were to give them up, he could lose his blessings. True devout christians believe this way. I was poor and was recieving free milk, and when I tried to give it to someone worse off then me, the pastor recognized I was giving a blessing away and chastized me. My pastor does not work, he only works for God. He lives in a 2 room apt with 3 people and does not complain or take money from the church to better his situation. God likes his servants humble, and will give you whatever you ask for- so why take it from the church? is his philosophy. When my pastor has money, he buys groceries for the poor in church instead of for himself. You may be in the presense of a bad Pastor, be careful.

Pastors aren't really rich. Some pastors maybe wanted to get rich. But Jesus doesn't want pastors to be rich.

I believe that we must give money for the MINISTRY of the pastor. if the money that we give is for the PASTOR, maybe, he is not a true pastor.

As the Bible says, a teacher must teach himself first before others.

I hope I answered your question

Are you willing to stand up and take that vow? No? Then why expect it of another human being. There is no ultimate progressive job level, so the pastor is left with what the congregation can afford. Expecting more is a natural striving in all human beings for themselves and their families.

Why does everyone seem to think pastor equals poor? Why are these pastors not allowed to prosper? Give gives to us everyday and we except freely. If God gives to the pastor, should he reject the offering given from God based upon the communities belief that he should be poor?

Well in my church they come out with a list of expenses every so often. How much they paid for oil, how much was electricity ect. And according to that report, my pastor apparenly did take a vow of poverty! I mean if he is willing to do all that work at the church for what they church is willing to pay - that sounds like poverty to me.
I guess it all depends on what church your in.

Well, most people don't think like Jesus. I know many people who wouldn't believe the pastor unless he looks successful, and looking successful means looking good, and looking good means having money.

Who would you believe? Someone who looks like a bumb, or someone who looks like he's been blessed with wealth?
