"Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loveth not transgressors. (The Noble Quran, 2:190)"
"But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in God: for He is One that heareth and knoweth (all things). (The Noble Quran, 8:61)"
"If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I do fear God, the cherisher of the worlds. (The Noble Quran, 5:28)"

Does the Koran prohibit murder? . . . Perhaps the words of current Islamic leaders can help us determine what is the truth about Islam . . .
In Iran, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei used the comments to call for protests against the United States. He argued that while the pope may have been deceived into making his remarks, the words give the West an "excuse for suppressing Muslims" by depicting them as terrorists. "Those who benefit from the pope's comments and drive their own arrogant policies should be targeted with attacks and protests," he said, referring to the United States.
(Hmmm. . . Let's see now . . . If someone "Depicts muslims as terrorists" then they should be "Targeted with attacks and protests." according to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ~~~~ I think I get the picture.)
Al-Qaida in Iraq and its allies said Muslims would be victorious and addressed the pope as "the worshipper of the cross," saying "you and the West are doomed as you can see from the defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya and elsewhere. ... We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose the 'jizya' tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (being killed by) the sword."
(Hmmm . . . "Convert or get your head cut off with a sword" ~~~I think I get the picture.)
"You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad (holy war) and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism, when God's rule is established governing all people and nations," said the statement by the Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups in Iraq.
(Hmmm. . . "Infidels and despots will get their necks chopped" ~~~ Yes, I am sure I get the picture now. )
Or it might be that the comments of a man forced them to do it . . .
So far, protests over the pope's comments have been smaller. However, there has been some violence: Attackers hurled firebombs at seven churches in the West Bank and Gaza Strip over the weekend, and a nun was shot to death in Somalia.
(Hmmm, Where in the qu'ran does it say to shoot unarmed women if they are not muslim? ~~~ Yes, the picture is completely clear now.)
All honest at heart muslims should hang their heads in shame and denounce such vile, evil men and their words.
Where is the overwhelming denunciation by the Islamic world for these Islamic leaders and for the murders of innocent men, women and children? Millions of muslims remain silent, as silent as those that have been murdered in the name of Islam and it's Allah.
Instead the world is admonished "Islam is a religion of peace".
Yes, the whole world gets the picture now. . .

Yes it does:
Quran 6:151
Say: "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really) prohibited you from": join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want - We provide sustenance for you and for them - come not nigh to shameful deeds, whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.
Quran 17:33
Nor take life - which Allah has made sacred - except for just cause. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, We have given his heir authority (to demand Qisas or to forgive): but let him not exceed bounds in the matter of taking life; for he is helped (by the law).

Apart from the quotatiions that *fagies* gave, i like to quote one as well :
9:6
"If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of God; and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge."
There are other many references, but i don't know their exact reference nos. Peace to All.
Edit in Response to *Mr. Answer* : why r u judging Islam, by the action of individuals. whatever khomeni says or does is for his nationalistic view, he is NO authority figure of Islam or the whole Muslim Nation, he was just a political figure of iran. if we go on to judge doctrine on the basis of individuals, then i think Christianity is the biggest murderous doctrine to have come into this world, 'coz of the Crusades and Holocaust by hitler. don't judge the doctrine on the basis of individuals' actions or words. if u really have to do it, then do it from The Best Example of a Muslim and a Human Being Ever i.e. Prophet Mohammad (May Peace and Blessings of ALLAH Be Upon Him), or u judge Islam on The Basis of its True Teachings, by urself researching abt Islam through reliable sources. Peace to All.
Edit in Response to *robert k* : what this guy is quoting is True, but is taking out of context to make the verses look bad. he doesn't knows the background of these verses, and doesn't even bother to look a few verses before these verses. my advise to him is look into the context of the verses he is quoting, 'coz anything can be misinterpretated if taken out of Context. Non-Muslims are equal to Muslims in an ideal Islamic Society govern by the Shariah (Islamic Law), in such a society Non-Muslims are refered to as 'dhimmis', and they have been living along side Muslims for centuries, as there are millions of Coptic Christians in Arab still, whose ancestors have been Christians, themselves. This guy really lacks knowledge and has to do research for himself.

only if you are killing a infidel because in the koran you are only a person if you are a muslim....citation from the koran like you asked....
Koran 8:67-68
"It is not for any Prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land. You desire the lure of this world and Allah desires for you the hereafter and Allah is Mighty, Wise.. Now enjoy what you have won as lawful and good and keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is forgiving, merciful."
Koran 8:55-57)
"Lo, the worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the ungrateful who will not believe."
"Those of them with whom you made a treaty and then at every opportunity they break their treaty and they keep not duty to Allah, If you come on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, so that they may remember."
Koran 5:33
"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land Is: Execution, or Crucifixion, or the Cutting and Removing Off of hands and feet from OPPOSITE sides, or exile from the land: That is their disgrace in this world and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter."

From Surah Al Mumtahinah:
Allah does not forbid you to treat kindly and act equitably towards those who have neither fought you in the matter of religion nor driven you out of your homes. Indeed Allah loves the just.' ( 12 ) He only forbids you to take for friends those who fought you in the matter of religion, and drove you out of your homes, and cooperated with others in your expulsion. Those who take them for friends are indeed the wrongdoers.' ( 13 )

no, certainly not, that's why the murderer who intentionally kills another one (if not self-defence) is punished by death penalty, while the killing by accident, he apologizes to the dead's family and he pays a kinda compensaton to them. but why the question?
