At the conclusion of Ramadan on the day of EID is the best time to give out gifts. Some people give out gifts on the 27th night of Ramadan when the Lailatul Qadr (night of power) is observed.
A nice gift is a prayer rug (usually 4' x 2'), a clock that alarms at prayer times. If you go online to this website http://www.alhannah.com/ they have tons of cool Islamic gifts. I have purchased there and they are good.

RE:
Ramadan Gift?
I have a good friend who is Muslim. What can I give her or her family for Ramadan? And since it lasts a full month, when do I give it?

That is thoughtful of you. Give them a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. They can use it to break their fast one day. I would give it to them at the beginning. If you don't want to do that then give them something on Eid the last of Ramadan. Remember Muslims like regular gifts like everyone else. It is easier to tell what is not good then what is good. Anything with a image is forbidden or anything like a cross or angel. If you do food, just make sure no pork or alcohol. Besides that anything you give will be much appreciated.

wow that is so nice of u. well we don't exchnage gifts on Ramadan, but we do start giving gifts by the end of Ramadan that are for eid. if u want to give a gift to ur frnd, then bangles, or soem sort of jewlery...since she could use it to wear on eid. but if u want to giv a gift to her whole family, then an eid card with a cake....

give it to her/him on EID.
when i have to get a gift for my friend i let her pick what she wants and i buy it for her/him!
just make sure you don't go to an expansive place.
my friend liked her gift and she/he still has it from 3 years.
