Many mothers turn to digital clocks cause of this but not every place is going to have that style of clock so the child need to read the other style as well.
I was once an assistant at a special education school and to teach the child to read time we used regular to large sized clocks with tactile(things u can feel) numbers.
The large clocks only went for the visually impaired. Many of the clocks were made for each individual child. First we would find out what they responded best to thru touch then used that material to fashion the numbers of the clock. Some children would respond like what rrjhannon said "stars" or some kind of raised sticker.
Please do check for dyslexia, some numbers might be getting mixed up.
At this Young age there might not be a problem at all and the more that ppl around her show how nervous they are will show on her too. Be care and be calm.
Talk to her teachers, they know much more than what I can say.

That's what teachers get paid to do. How old is the little girl? Some children don't learn to read until second grade. Does she know letters and numbers? Make learning fun. If the child feels coerced or pressured into learning, are punished or belittled for failures, or are confronted with formal learning situations prematurely, they'll come to dread learning, not to love it. She may just be getting all her information mixed up. Be patient and understanding. She'll get it sooner or later.

It's really not all that uncommon for her not to be able to read the clock. This is something that she'll learn from her teacher, in time, through school.

It is good, however, to get her used to the numbers, etc. Any little bit that the Mom can do, will help the child.

most children do not learn to read the clock until 3rd grade accurately..I have worked in the classrooms with children for 7 years.. just be confident and encourage your Friend to praise her daughter for what math skill she does master and she will learn to want to excel at math and reading time and any other subject she believes in herself that she does well at

I had a simular problem with one of my children. The teacher told me that making them consentrate on it being time was intimidating so she advised we substitute the #'s with items eg stars - one oclock was 1 large star 5 after was 5 small ones. I know it sounds silly but after a couple weeks my son no longer needed the stars.
