The way our church is set up, everyone would have to come in from the front (outside) but I don't want to be too covered up. Most of the gowns that I like are either sleeveless or short sleeved.

You can get one with a little jacket to match. As you enter the church from outside, before you start the walk down the isle, you can remove the little jacket. Then after the ceremony, if you get chilly leaving the church you can put the jacket back on and wear it to the reception hall. That is what my daughter did 3 years ago and she looked beautiful both with the little jacket and without.

Have a wonderful wedding day and wear what you want. You only get to do it up once.

Depends on where you live of course. I live in California, so it wouldn't be that bad to stand outside for a few minutes to bare the cold with a sleeveless gown. I assume this is right before the ceremony and all the guests will already be inside so, my suggestion for you is that you wear a small sweater or coat before entering the church. Once you're about to go in take it off and make sure there is someone near by that could hold it for you. Why give up looking beautiful just because of cold weather? Besides, all the booze and dancing at the reception will warm you right back up.

There are some dresses that have "ensambles" which are kind of extra parts of the dress (overcoats made of sheer fabric for example) that can be taken off afterwards, and make the dress look more elegant for the ceremony (plus you won't catch a cold).
There are also some long sleeved gowns in which the sleeves are made of sheer fabric or lace, which is indeed covering you but doesn't look too covered up.

www.theknot.com has a huge selection of gowns, I also suggest you take a look at www.pronovias.com and www.lasposa.com.

But hey, it is your wedding, you can wear whatever you want, and besides, you will be so overtaken my emotion you won't even feel the cold.

Good Luck!

You don't need a long sleeve gown at all. If it is a black or white tie event, a strapless gown would be completely appropriate. Just make sure that you have a cape, heavy wrap, or coat to keep you warm. Or, get dressed at church so you can be warm outside. The adrenaline would keep you warm.

Good Luck!

Honey, it's your day. Get the dress that you love. I got married in January... it was 25 degrees outside and snow falling like crazy. I got married in a beautiful strapless gown. If you are worried about you or your wedding party getting cold, have some shawls. You can always delegate someone to take them up right before yall walk in. Good luck and congrats.

No, it is not. I wore a long sleeve wedding dress and I was burning up. After the ceremony there are photos to do and it just got too hot for me. Wear whatever you want and find a cute cover for going outside if you need to.

Winter wedding are so beautiful, especially around Christmas time. Have someone you would be in charge of coats. You could put a coat on and when it get time for you to walk in, just slip the coat or shawl off.

The church I got married was the same way, it wasn't the cold, it was rain that threw us. One of my good friends carried me around the church, and another held a umbrella over our heads.
It was a crazy day, but I walked down the aisle with clean bright white shoes, and no mud on the hem of my dress.

So, just have someone handy to grab the coats, and you should be fine. God luck, and have the happiest of wedding days.

God bless us all........

No, I don't think it's necessary. I'm getting married in January and I have a short sleeve gown.

I don't think there are any rules about this anymore. I had a friend who wore a sleeveless gown in December.

It's your day -- do what YOU want. The people who come to your wedding are coming to celebrate your marriage -- not to judge what you're wearing. (And if they are that shallow, they don't need to be there anyway). ;)

No, it's not really necessary to have a long sleeved gown...go with the one that you want. Besides, you're going to be indoors anyway!

Congratulations on your marriage!
