You might think it's terrible that Churches have a collection plate...but did you know that over 3 million dollars from Church offerings went to support Katrina Victims in the Gulf states? Did you know that more money and food is given to Charity Food pantries by Christian Churches than any other sector in the world? Did you know that you can attend church with out ever giving a dime? Did you know that the average Preacher spend up to 18 hours a day serving their congregation, though is one of the lowest paid "professional" job...(meaning you need a college degree) Churches have an entire council who determines where the money is spent. I get so tire of this question. It is asked up to 10 times a day. Can't you be a little more orginal?

This is true in the Catholic church. They have you pay for mass cards, basically making it seem that God needs your money in order to release someone from "purgatory". If that doesnt pray on people I don't know what does. I never feel in my Christian church that I am "guilted" into giving. If you EVER give out of guilt, then it is, to God , as if you have not given at all. Ok to the one who said Money is the root of all evil, read your bible, its says the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, big difference.

MOST denominations do;; they have you come up to their alters and scare you to death with their SCREAMING and wailing, jumping over things, it is totally crazy, they say the Holy Spirit moves them to do such things, but that is untrue... WE are to conduct our self in a decent manner when we are in the House of God, not act like a bunch of lunatics. Peaceful, and calm worship that is what the Father expects from HIS children. THEY WILL SCARE PEOPLE INTO BELIEVING THIS MESS, SO THEY CAN TALK THEM INTO anything, their money, their lives, what ever they want from them. DOES this seem right to you??? It sure don't to me, believe me I have been there and done that,it is fake worship just to control all (THEIR) followers

The reason for the offering plate is like putting gas in your gas tank. The car won't go without it.
Be fair and objective.please!!!! God has put the message in each of our hands to pass on to others. Somebody has to pay for you to give you the right to ask on this site.
Here is some guilt for you and a message to set you free of it.
God's Gospel:
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

Pretty much. Hell fire and brim stone and oh, here's the collection plate... Jesus loves you!
Yes, this is classical brainwashing. It is the application of a negative stimuli invoking a desired behavior, then rewarding that behavior.
"you suck you suck you really really suck" "but god loves you!"

Churches don't. Church people are capable of anything. Just because a collection plate comes your way does not mean you have to drop something in it.
It's good to support your church and the many charities they support.

gee... ya think? ... look at those huge churches they build... where do you think it comes from. non-profit? hm.you have to pay for those sins ya know. guilt has been their gig since the beginning.. its the hook. so the ppl who sit next to you when they drop their envelope in and you dont, you take it from them...and pass it to the guy next to you... and they give you the fish eye as if they were the ones that were hired to save you
